Lady in Pasir Ris Drive Cleaned Window Like Spider-Man

Cleanliness is important.

If you live with a parent who cares, you’ll probably be reminded about that a lot.

Apart from the stress of being yelled at, it’s mostly accepted that a hygienic environment has positive effects on your mental and physical well being. Just take this article as proof among many other supporting pieces.

But how far will you go to keep your living quarters presentable? Some are so committed to the task that they will risk death.

Meet the Dirt Destroyer

Let’s call her the Destroyer for short.

A STOMPer had the pleasure (or shock, as they called it these days) of seeing this legend at work on 24 March, 4.54pm.

The plucky lady was cleaning her window pane with half her body perched on the window ledge of a fifth-storey unit at Block 651 Pasir Ris Drive 10.

Here, have a better look at the feat.

No stain too stubborn, no surface out of reach, microbes quake in their boots at the mention of the Destroyer.

A “horrible” sight?

We all know that courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the persistence in the face of them.

Clearly inspired by the woman’s dedication and dare in the face of dirty panes, he said: “despite many incidents that have happened involving people falling from a height, I just witnessed this incident with my own eyes.”

He described the sight as “horrible”(he probably means heavenly or something) to Stomp and was worried for her safety.

Look, can you blame her? She really really likes clean windows. Live and let live.

Except, the STOMPer thinks she may have not been “let live”, saying “it may only be the fifth floor but if she were to fall, she would still die.”

Accidents Happen

Okay, you know you shouldn’t do this. Don’t put your life on the line for cleanliness, of all things. But the thing is Ms Dirt Destroyer probably doesn’t see this as risking her life. She probably has lots of trust in her agility and she’d think she is safe.

That’s what they all thought.

Accidents Happen OFTEN

Okay, not so much often, but often enough.

Among foreign domestic workers (FDW) alone, fall from heights fatalities that are attributed to window cleaning is a common enough occurrence that there is a measure in place.

Specifically, they are not supposed to be made to clean window exteriors unless there were certain conditions in place, namely:

  1. The employer or an adult representative of the employer is physically present to supervise the FDW; and
  2. Window grilles have been installed and are locked at all times during the cleaning process.

This lady could be the owner of her own unit, so she’s free to do whatever the hell she wants as long as she’s not disturbing others.

But it’s just the fact that it’s known to be dangerous. So listen to the Ministry of Manpower anyway. Don’t clean your windows.

Except that’s not the lesson here

There are safe ways to clean your windows, including doing it through locked grilles and with the use of extendable wipers. So do what you want but do it safely.

I’ll end off with a nugget of wisdom from the STOMPer himself:

“Life is not just to clean a piece of window glass.”
