Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Take for instance, this:
It’s not what it looks like. The guy is positioning the dolly while looking at a screen.
The saying was taught pretty often when I was in school, so it is pretty strange to see that those words haven’t left an impression within people’s minds.
Lady Used PMA On MRT, Drew Flak From Netizens
By not having the phrase in their mind, I mean when people saw this:
Some immediately thought it unreasonable and raised their pitchforks:
The original post is on SG Road Vigilante – SGRV with the caption:
PMA for the win lah! How many such oversized PMAs can the train accommodate? The intention of this post is not to shame the user but rather questions to LTA. Please do not post nasty comments of the user in the pic as she is a genuine user who requires a PMA.
Should LTA now determine the size and weight of PMAs?
What is considered noncompliance when there is no restriction to weight and width?
Land Transport Authority – We Keep Your World Moving please advise…
To be fair, the vehicle is pretty huge. But there is a very good reason for the lady using the PMA, and it’s not laziness.
Lady Had A Car Accident
There isn’t a need to theorise why, because the lady herself, Priscilla Ong, saw the post and replied directly on the post.
She had a car accident in 2016, which caused her to lose the use of her master hand, and left side to be physically weak. She was declared permanently disabled.
What this means, of course, is that a PMA, which I remind you stands for Personal Mobility Aids, is made exactly for people like her.
She goes on to clarify that she’s on steroids and that gaining weight is exactly the consequence of using the drug.
As for why the vehicle looks huge, it’s mainly because of the cover, which should not obstruct other people anyway.
Still Used PMA For Charity
Priscilla is actually the co-founder of Project Love Lunch, a charity project delivering meals to needy children. When the picture was taken, she happened to be delivering 35 mooncakes to needy families.
Here are some photos of the PMA helping with charity work in action:
But, before you start contacting them about donating something, be sure to take note of these two things on their FAQ:
Have you thought of going to the media?
No, we do not go to the media as we have experienced first hand on how the media may backfire on us with unwanted donations of items to the needy families and they do not know how to handle all these extra items and thus they may end up hoarding them.
Can I choose to sponsor food items instead?
Yes u can liaise with any of the admins on the page to do a drop off of food items that you wish to give like Milk, bread, cereal, biscuits, and fruits. We do not take in canned food cause they may end up keeping till item has expired even uncooked rice cause they may keep till the rice has bugs and thus becomes another issue and some of our families do not cook at home.
And if you’d like an example of the hoarding happening, you can check out this soy sauce uncle.
(Yes, that’s me covering my backside.)
SG Road Vigilante – SGRV later updated the post, adding her side of the story.
So put down your pitchforks, because there are always at least two sides to the story.
