Everything About the Lakeside Electrocution Death Which Could Have Happened in a Bathroom

Home.

It’s supposed to be a place where you feel safe, where you can take shelter and protect yourself from external dangers like crime or, even a deadly contagious virus.

Sadly, it was in their home that three family members died, and through no fault of their own.

Everything About the Lakeside Electrocution Death

An elderly couple and their son died following a suspected electrocution incident in their home.

The incident occurred in the elderly couple’s flat at Block 120 Ho Ching Road in Lakeside on Thursday afternoon (10 Dec).

According to Lianhe Wanbao, Mr Omar Manan, aged 80, had fallen in the shower. The man needs help when moving about as he previously suffered a stroke.

His 66-year-old wife, Madam Asmah Bujang, then rushed in to assist him.

It was at this point that Madam Asmah and her husband are believed to have been electrocuted.

As she was assisting her husband, it’s suspected that Madam Asmah had accidentally pulled on the shower head, which was attached to the water heater, causing an electrical fault.

At the time, their 45-year-old son, Mr Muhamad Ashikin Omar, had gone with his 15-year-old daughter to visit the elderly couple.

Mr Muhamad had to wait longer than usual for them to answer the door, and suspecting that something was wrong, he broke down the door and entered the flat.

Upon seeing his parents on the ground, the 45-year-old tried to revive them, but was reportedly electrocuted in the process too.

No Foul Play

The police said they were alerted to the case at around 4.15pm.

The couple were found lying motionless on the ground, and were pronounced dead on the scene.

Their son was found unconscious and rushed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Sadly, he, too, was later pronounced dead.

The police said no foul play is suspected.

Investigations are ongoing.

Never Touch Someone Who Has Been Electrocuted

Since anyone who’s electrocuted is carrying a high voltage, it’s extremely dangerous to touch them directly without any insulation, especially if your body is wet.

To move the victim away from the contact point, use a wooden or plastic object.

Wearing a pair of rubber shoes can also protect the person helping the victim from electrocution.

Wise to Check Circuit Breaker Monthly

Speaking to ST, Associate Professor Liang Yung Chii from NUS’ engineering faculty said that typically, a circuit breaker would trip in the event of an electric shock, and the electrical supply will be interrupted.

However, if the circuit breaker is faulty, or does not detect the leakage current for any reason, the electricity supply may still be on.

So, if someone in your home is electrocuted, the first thing you should do is to switch off the main electrical supply by manually turning off the circuit breaker.

Then, check up on the victim, apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary, or call an ambulance.

It’s also a good practice to check your circuit breaker every month, as it could literally save your life.

There is a test button on every circuit breaker, usually denoted by “T”.

If you press that button and all the electricity in your house cuts off, that means it’s functioning.

If some lights, fans, or appliances in your house are still switched on, it means that your circuit breaker isn’t working properly, and you should call in an electrician as soon as possible to rectify the issue.
