In this latest episode of Keeping Up With The Former MPs, we attempt to follow the life of former PAP Member of Parliament (MP) Lam Pin Min.
Now if you recall, the former Sengkang MP met his match in the indomitable Jamus “The Oppa” Lim, and as such was forced to ‘surrender’ his post.

And yet, the question begets;
What’s the fallen MP doing nowadays, now that he has been relieved of the burden of votes?
Well, in this latest episode of Keeping Up With The Former MPs, we do just that.
Former Sengkang MP Takes on Second Job as Car Rental Company Senior Advisor
Lam has now taken on a new challenging role:
As the Senior Advisor of a car rental company.
In a Facebook post, Lam unveiled his latest career move, and expressed his excitement at working with the new team.
He also aims to “advance Lumens’ business development and growth in the sector.”
For the record, Lumens Auto Pte Ltd is a car rental company that has been in service since the year 2014.

Netizens Wonder
Though Netizens have since expressed their well-wishes on Lam’s post, things aren’t exactly the same over on Lumens’ Facebook page.
Having released the news at the same time as Lam, Lumens’ revelation saw a couple of curious remarks, including one which doubted the car rental prowess of Lam – who served as a medically trained doctor before joining the Government.
Lest you’re unaware, Lam had served as a regular medical officer in the RSAF before joining the private sector in 2003.
Subsequently, he worked as a paediatric ophthalmologist at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, before moving to Singapore National Eye Centre and subsequently Eagle Eye Centre.

Not His First Career Switch After His Parliamentary Phase
After Lam lost out in the Sengkang GRC sector, some expected him to return to his former post as a sign-on medical officer.
Instead, he announced in an update on Facebook that he’ll be joining Eagle Eye Centre (EEC) as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Service from 1 September 2020.
Such a busy man.
Influencer (Of Sorts)
In recent weeks, Lam has also assumed the role of an influencer. Of sorts.

On 26 October, the former MP documented his experience exploring the fascinating area of Chinatown, and brought up the much-hyped #SingapoRediscovers vouchers.
He also asked Netizens how they intended to spend their own vouchers.
And on 18 October, he shared his visit to Leong Nam Temple on Facebook, and encouraged everyone to continue exercising caution and vigilance, and to stay safe.
And though Lam has lost his position in the parliamentary circle, he continues to catch up with his networking circle.

Lam Pin Min
In 2006, he was part of the PAP team in Ang Mo Kio GRC.
By 2011, Sengkang West SMC was carved out from Ang Mo Kio GRC, and Dr Lam went out to contest in the SMC himself, winning with 58.11% against WP’s Koh Choong Yong.
Two years after his victory, he joined the public sector as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Health in 2014. Lest you’re not aware, a Minister of State is akin to a “junior minister”, and most new ministers would’ve been a Minister of State before becoming a full minister.
He won the Sengkang West SMC again in the 2015 General Elections, and in 2017, he was promoted to the Senior Minister of State for both the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transport.

In the 2020 General Elections, Sengkang GRC was carved out from Sengkang West SMC and other areas, and Dr Lam, being part of the team, lost the battle.
As ministers are required to be elected MPs, he suffered the fate of George Yeo back in 2011, and therefore “lost his job”.
These five GRCs could see the tightest battle in GE2025; here’s why:
