Landlord in Chai Chee HDB Flat Imposed Such Weird Water Limit for Tenant That She Moved Out After a Month Before Contract Expired

I always like listening to landlord horror stories.

The first reason is that they’re not happening to me. The second because they can usually get pretty wild.

Demanding payment before the scheduled time, gossips of ‘side businesses’ are just a few stories I’ve heard over the years.

But today, we got one of these that actually hit the headlines.

Water For Their Troubles

According to Lianhe Zaobao, a tenant formerly staying at Chai Chee Blk 20 reportedly moved out a month before her contract expired.

Apparently, the female tenant had much to complain about her landlord, Mr Hu.

She says that the 60-year old frequently monitored the water and electricity meter every day. When he noticed even the slightest increase of water usage, he would then hammer on the tenants’ door.

A classic tale of the overly observant type, it seems.

But wait, there’s more.

It seemed that this particular tenant had many grievances.

Taking to social media, she told of how Mr Hu had many unreasonable requests.

He once insisted that she not use soap to bathe in order to save water. In another case, he even looked through her laundry in order to estimate how much water she was using.

Remember, it’s a landlord. A DUDE looking through women’s clothing.

Definitely not creepy, right?

I mean, if anyone invaded privacy like that, who wouldn’t be upset?

Eventually, she packed up left the place as mentioned above and I don’t think anyone can blame her

However, there are other sides to this story. Namely, from the landlord.

Tales Of Others

According to him, he did not deny being very conscious of saving water.

Mr Hu says that while it was a personal practice, he never forced the tenant to follow suit and accused her of slandering him.

So maybe…he wasn’t the bad guy in this?

But now we also enter another’s story: a second female tenant. Like the one who moved out, she too experienced several disturbing situations.

Once, after a shower, Mr Hu appeared at her door and told her that she showered too long and only needed one per day.

Showering only once per day?

I refuse.

He even did the whole checking on her clothes washing affair too, telling her that she didn’t need to use so much water to wash them.

Mind you, her underwear was inside the washing machine. Please be disturbed again.

Other lady tenants were also told to give an extra S$2 to subsidise the water fee.

The female tenant also said that once the washing machine broke, the landlord asked all the tenants to share the repair costs and the two started to argue.

She also pointed out that he was very emotional and would hit her door for no reason, making her very scared.

Sounds like someone else might also move out.

Even More Denial

However, Mr Hu once again denied forcing his principles onto others when reporters came to interview him.

However, he admitted to saying that the female tenant took too long to take a shower in the morning for more than 10 minutes.

Mr Hu even claims to have told them to shower twice a day. What in the world is going on here?

It’s either the stories of the crazy landlord were exaggerated, or maybe he was lying.

Still, if someone had to move out, it couldn’t have been too pleasant.

Time to strike-off places I’m not going to consider, then.
