I‘m sure many of us might have visited Genting Highlands at least once in our lives. If you are unacquainted with this high-altitude hill resort in Malaysia, the first thing you must know is that the road up is treacherous.
I’m talking steep, winding slopes that lead up to Genting Highlands after a long arduous drive. What’s scarier is that people have a knack for speeding.
So yeah, pretty scary stuff.

But watch out because it’s gonna get even more treacherous from here:
Landslide Hits Road Leading To M’sia’s Genting Highlands & Cuts Off Road
A landslide hit Malaysia’s Genting Highlands yesterday (5 November 2019). Fortunately, no one was injured and no deaths were reported.
However, the landslide caused a road to be cut off.
Here’s a video and some pictures of the aftermath of the landslide.
The landslide was reported to have occurred at around 5.40pm near the exhibition hall of the real estate company at Jalan Genting-Amber Court.
Malaysian media Bernama reported that the landslide resulted in the road leading up to an apartment building to be completely covered by debris and earth.
Thankfully, the road is not a major one and isn’t expected to affect the tourist resort we are familiar with. It also has been reported to not affect any main roads.

Department director Nor Hisham Mohammad said, “The route affected was not the main route to the highland tourist resort, it is the road to other areas in Genting Highlands.”
Contractors and Fire and Rescue Department are currently in the process of clearing the road.
Well, that’s a whole bunch of good news. But wait just a minute.
Land movement was still evident at the area after the initial landslide occurred so it’s not all safe just yet. Hence, the authorities are currently still monitoring the area and we should still exercise caution.
Still, it’s worrying to know that the area is susceptible to landslides.

Let’s hope that the roads get cleared up and no more landslides occur while we wait for the opening of Genting Highlands’ Outdoor Theme Park.
Lest you’re unaware, it is finally opening in Q3 of 2020! You can read more about it here.
