DPM Lawrence Wong Studying Ways to Provide Additional Support for S’poreans

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is currently examining ways to offer additional support to Singaporeans as he works on Budget 2024.

He noted that there are indications suggesting that 2024 will be a better year, with improvements expected in the economy, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

However, he also acknowledged potential downsides, such as geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts worldwide, which could impact the global economy.

He said that during the launch of the 2024 Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers at Jalan Besar Community Club.

Starting today (3 January 2024), Singaporean households can digitally claim their vouchers via go.gov.sg/cdcv.

Mr Wong emphasised that these vouchers are part of the government’s initiative to cushion the effects of inflation.

The vouchers will be valid till 31 December 2024.

Households are notably receiving $200 more compared to last year.

With $250 worth of vouchers usable at supermarkets and the remaining half at hawker stalls and heartland merchants, they provide substantial support to the community.

Vouchers will be Accepted in More Supermarket and Merchants

You will be pleased to know that even Cold Storage has joined the scheme, bringing the total number of participating supermarkets to 8.

These include Ang Mo Supermarket, Giant, HAO Mart, NTUC Fairprice, Prime Supermarket, Sheng Siong, U-Stars Supermarket, and Cold Storage.

Furthermore, the scheme has seen the participation of 23,000 merchants, twice the number compared to 2021.

After claiming your vouchers, you can conveniently find participating supermarkets, hawkers, and heartland merchants near your residence through this link.

Mr Wong highlighted that many of these participating merchants and supermarkets are offering their own discounts and rebates, providing even more value to those using CDC vouchers.

In 2023, the majority of Singaporean households claimed their vouchers, with an impressive 97% of claimed vouchers being spent. Considering the recent GST hike, it’s likely that CDC vouchers will continue to be widely utilized

Donations for unused 2023 CDC Vouchers are Encouraged

Before you rush to claim your 2024 vouchers, it’s a good idea to check if you still have last year’s vouchers. Instead of discarding them during your upcoming spring cleaning, consider donating them to charities.

These donations will be made in cash value and can be done through three simple steps:

  1. View the list of participating charities.
  2. Choose a charity of your choice and click on its name.
  3. You’ll be directed to a form where you can log in via Singpass and input the entire balance left from your 2023 CDC voucher as of 31 December 2023.

It’s a meaningful way to contribute to the community while ensuring that no voucher goes to waste.
