Featured as a tough-ass, ex-military firefighter-slash-heroine who wouldn’t think twice about kicking your butt to the curb and back if you even think of getting on her bad side, Lee Si-young is one of the beloved survivors of Netflix’s hit Korean apocalyptic horror series, Sweet Home.
After all, to survive in a (fictional) world filled with grotesque monsters that can easily overpower any human especially if they are caught unaware, she’ll definitely need to have a very special set of skills… and of course, plenty of physical strength and stamina to go with it.
As Columbus likes to constantly reminds us, never forget the first rule in Zombieland – Cardio!
Sweet lord – just look at those muscles!
In line with her on-screen persona, the 38-year-old Si-young has worked tirelessly for the past 6 months prior to shooting the series to sculpt her body into the temple it is today.
Those impressive muscles would make any woman swoon and any man weep… err… or it’s the other way around now?
We’ve always heard of such feats from actors and actresses who landed roles in action films, but what’s surprising here is that Si-young has always been a pretty athletic person her whole life.
In fact, did you know that she was an amateur boxer back in her twenties and has won the 7th Annual Women’s Amateur Boxing Competition in 2010?
Although she’s no longer as young as before, Si-young is still grateful for the opportunity to be able to showcase her stunt work in the many action scenes in the series, knowing full well that she might not have the strength to keep up once she enters her forties or even fifties.
A Total 180 in Personality on TikTok
Much like The Rock shedding his tough-man persona for more laidback and comedic roles in films, Si-young isn’t always the no-nonsense person she portrayed in the Netflix series.
Her sense of humour is particularly infectious and this is evident from her meteoric rise on the popular social media platform, TikTok.
Despite only starting to post short clips since August of last year, she has garnered over 10 million followers on TikTok, which is in stark comparison with the 1.3 million followers she has on Instagram.
She’s the first Korean actress to hit that milestone.
What’s so unique about her TikTok videos? Well, for starters, her fans quickly discovered, and fell in love, with her quirkier side.

She often puts herself in hilarious (made-up) situations just for a laugh, such as the time she spotted a handsome young man while walking with her friend and promptly “fainted” into his arms, much to the guy’s surprise. Unfortunately, her unwitting wing-lady revealed the charade when she tried to helpfully revive her only to be rebuffed by a supposedly the “blacked-out” Si-young.
We’ve seen enough kids eating Tide Pods or people doing stupid (and sometimes dangerous) challenges on TikTok just to get that sweet 15-second fame, but to Si-young, this isn’t just a publicity stunt to garner followers and views.
In fact, she was quoted as saying, “Comedy is something that I am always willing to work on. In fact, earlier in my career, I did a lot of comic roles and I really loved doing them.”
“However, after I began to work out, I took on stronger and more action-packed roles. So now, I do TikTok as a way to release my comedic side,” she added.
