Singapore-based TV host Lee Teng and his Taiwanese wife Gina Lin have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Ellison. The Taiwan-born Singaporean, 41, announced the birth on Instagram on 13 Aug, joking that he should now be called “Ellis’ dad”.

Lin, 32, gave birth to their son after a challenging five-year journey that began with tragedy in 2020. The couple refers to Ellison as their “rainbow baby” – a term used for children born after pregnancy loss.
Lee Teng’s Journey Through Loss and COVID-19 Separation
The couple lost their first child in July 2020.
Lin suffered a miscarriage when she was six months pregnant. The unborn baby boy had been nicknamed Xiao Dou Ya, which means “Little Bean Sprout” in Chinese.
Lin had returned to Taiwan to prepare for the birth when the miscarriage occurred. Lee remained in Singapore for work commitments and could not travel to be with his wife due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The separation lasted until August 2020 when Lee finally reunited with Lin in Taiwan. The couple spent three months together in Taiwan to heal from their grief and support each other through the difficult period.
Gina Lin Opens Up About Emotional Struggles During Second Pregnancy
Lin shared her emotional journey on Instagram, writing in Chinese about the challenges she faced over the past few years. She described dealing with physical, mental and emotional strain while trying to appear calm and composed to others.
“In reality, I’ve become incredibly sensitive and insecure,” Lin wrote in her post. She revealed that she lived with repressed emotions and spent almost the entire pregnancy at home.
The expectant mother addressed her newborn son directly in her Instagram post, saying: “Thank you for choosing me to be your mother, thank you for working so hard to grow up, thank you for giving me the courage to face my birthday and thank you for piecing together the broken me bit by bit.”
Lin also expressed disbelief at finally holding her healthy baby. “From the moment I heard your first cry, it felt so unreal. I wake up every morning and ask myself, ‘Is this true?’ Thank you for coming safely to us. Your father and I only hope you will be healthy and safe.”
Lee apologised to his followers for keeping the second pregnancy a secret. He explained that the couple had faced countless setbacks and there were moments when he could not bear to see his wife disappointed.
“At times, I asked if we should give up, simply because I couldn’t stand watching her suffer,” Lee wrote. “The wait has been long, but the moment I saw the smile on our rainbow baby’s face, I knew every second was worth it.”
The TV host also apologised for turning down work over the past year to support his wife during the pregnancy. Lee thanked Lin for her perseverance in her journey to becoming a mother.
