You may have heard incredible stories of how women become insanely strong in times of need.
Take, for instance, the 2012 incident when a 22-year-old woman lifted a BMW 525i off her father when the vehicle fell from a jack.
Or perhaps when a certain Lydia Angyiou reportedly fought a polar bear in northern Quebec to safeguard her son and his friends.
Two separate incidents. Two insane feats of strength. A common phenomenon that’s supposedly attributed to an innate power known as…
“Hysterical strength”.
Woman Left Car Without Putting Car to P or Engaging Handbrake; Car Moved Forward & Hit a Taxi
And yet, it appears that to trigger hysterical strength…
You need to invoke more than just being hysterical and panicky, as the following incident appears to exemplify.
Just yesterday (10 March 2021), Facebook page SG Road Vigilante posted a rather eye-opening video on its Youtube channel.
Accompanied by the caption “ang mo kio mcdonalds p plate toyota prius + driver forgot to put the vehicle to park”, the video’s content is exactly that:
A female driver forgot to set her vehicle to park or engage the handbrake, and it proceeded to steamroll once she took her attention off it.
The video begins with the woman getting out of her car to pay the parking fee, near what is presumably a McDonald’s outlet at Ang Mo Kio.
That itself is a sin alright; it’s 2021 and some car park gantries still require drivers to insert a cashcard into the machine, but I digress.
Unfortunately, it seems that she had neither set the vehicle to park nor engaged the handbrake, as the car begins to head on its own journey with the door distinctly left open.
Shocked, the woman scrambles to intervene, though why she would choose to close the car door instead of say, getting inside to engage the handbrake, is probably known only to her.
Or perhaps it’s as they say; desperation isn’t always rational.
Unfortunately, the woman does not quite seem to have the fabled hysterical strength on her side, as the car ploughs through the automated barricade before it. Even so, she perseveres in trying to get the car to stop.
But to no avail.
In the end, she could only tag along at the car’s side as it makes a beeline for a taxi in front of it. Meanwhile, the owner of the taxi could only watch on, utterly nonplussed, as a revving car and its owner charge towards him.
For a moment, it appears as though he would be keen to protect his own vehicle. But he ultimately leaps out of the way at the last second, leaving both vehicles to “collide” into one another.
From thereon, he could only watch with flailing arms as the woman finally gets into her car.

Netizens Are Not Impressed
After the video was uploaded, Netizens turned up in droves to reiterate the importance of setting a vehicle to park and engaging the handbrake.
This was to circumvent any unnecessary injuries, that may occur from such unfortunate instances.
Many, however, were just glad that nobody was hurt.
Though several were admittedly unable to resist the temptation to make a joke.
Well, it seems that at the very least, the female driver would have learnt a valuable lesson…
Albeit the hard way.
Here’s hoping that other drivers would learn from this lesson as well, because we all know the consequences if the circumstances were just a little different.
