Timing is everything.
Just look at Donald Trump, the President of the United States who (allegedly) depended a lot on the timing of his online campaign to win the hot seat.
And now, timing has made a well-known political candidate in Singapore accuse the Singapore Police Force (SPF) of being politically motivated.
Here’s a brief recap in case you’re too caught up over having only 10 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.
Lim Tean Arrested For Stealing Money & Stalking
On 2 Oct 2020, it was reported that Lim Tean, a political candidate in Singapore who is really active on social media has been arrested.
It first came to light when his lawyer, M Ravi, took to Facebook to break the news, as well as point out why they think the arrest is unlawful.
At the time of the arrest, Lim was preparing for a defamation suit against his client by PM Lee Hsien Loong.
Ooh, sinister.
In response, the SPF has released a statement of their own to refute the allegations.
Police reports were lodged against him by his former client (for misappropriating a large sum of money) and a victim whom he had allegedly stalked.
They said that Lim had refused to cooperate with the investigations and refused to turn up for an interview with the police.
They have a duty to investigate all alleged serious offences, they added.
SPF Publishes Lim Tean’s Lawyer Letter To Prove There’s No Sinister Motive Behind His Dramatic Arrest
Well, it turns out that the SPF isn’t interested in a “he-said-she-said” situation, and went one step further to substantiate their claims.
In that same initial statement, they said that Lim refused to turn up via his legal counsel.
So the next logical step would be to prove their words, which they subsequently did in another Facebook post.
They published the contents of a lawyer’s letter sent to the Commercial Affairs Department by Lim’s legal counsel.
Here’s the TL; DR:
- The SPF has asked for Lim to turn up for an interview on 28 Sep 2020
- As Lim was in the midst of “busily preparing” for PM Lee’s defamation case, he believes that the investigation on “trumped-up charges” might be a collusion between the PM and the CAD
- As such, Lim will not turn up for any interviews.
- It was also added that the stalking case, which is under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA), is outside the area covered by CAD

Lim’s Side Of The Story
According to MS News, Lim was bailed out by Leong Sze Hian, his client in the defamation suit by PM Lee.
Lim went on to Facebook after getting out and denied all the charges that were levied against him in a Facebook live video.
Emphasising that this might be a politically-motivated arrest, Lim claims to have told the Investigating Officer over the phone that he will only turn up for an interview after 9 Oct 2020.
If you’re wondering, why 9 Oct, that’s because that’s the day the defamation suit by PM Lee will go to trial.
He added that when he was contacted on 16 Sep to go to the police, he knew that it was an effort to disrupt the defamation suit.
As for the charges against him, he explained that the victim who lodged a police report against him was a staff who worked with him for one month before leaving on unhappy terms.
As for misappropriating money from a previous client, he claims that the sum of $18,000 for legal costs wasn’t awarded to him, and he has not “taken a single cent”.
