Having a birthday party in 2020 can be a rather depressing affair.

If you had one during the circuit breaker, it would have been just like every other night; eating cake alone on your bed until you pass out.

Even if you had one now, you’d only be able to invite 5 visitors, as per the Covid-19 guidelines on social gatherings.

Like cruises to nowhere, these small birthday parties are certainly better than nothing, but sad nonetheless.

One group of local celebrities had a very simple solution to this predicament, though: break the rules.

Local Celebrities Found Breaking COVID-19 Rules For Birthday Celebration

Several local celebrities have been caught flouting Covid-19 rules after a picture of a birthday bash was uploaded to social media.

The photo, which was reportedly shared on 3 Oct, showed 13 people posing around someone holding a cake.

Those pictured included local celebrities Terence Cao, Shane Pow, Julie Tan, Jeremy Chan and Jeffrey Xu.

Shin Min Daily News, the outlet that broke the story, was tipped off by one of its readers after they had come across the picture on Instagram.

According to the reader, Jeffrey posted an Instagram story on 3 Oct of the birthday celebration.

The photo did not have a date, but there was reportedly evidence to prove it had been taken two months ago.

“One of the artistes in the photo, Terence, had sent a congratulatory message to wish Jeffrey a happy birthday and even posted a photo of them together,” the reader said.

“I kept the link but it expired as the post and photo had already been removed”.

Terence had also sent a congratulatory message on 4 Oct to wish Shane a happy birthday.

Both Terence and Shane had been wearing the same clothes as in the Instagram photo posted by Jeffrey, meaning both photos were likely taken on the same occasion.

Mediacorp Confirms Party Took Place; Celebs Apologise

Medicorp said it has spoken to three of its artistes involved – Terence Cao, Shane Pow, and Jeffrey Xu – and confirmed that the incident took place in October 2020.

They also confirmed that Sonia Chew was also part of Xu’s celebrations for his 32nd birthday.

“They deeply regret their actions. They would like to apologise for the mistake and assure everyone that this will not happen again,” Mediacorp said.

“We take this matter seriously. Safety is a priority. We constantly brief and remind our artists to adhere to safe management guidelines, both in their professional and personal capacities.”

As you know, social gatherings are currently limited to five participants, and households may receive up to five visitors at any one time.

This will only increase to 8 once we have shifted to Phase 3 on 28 Dec.
