5 People Set Up Raised $50K for Loh Kean Yew After Knowing That He Didn’t Win Any Money from Being World Champion
On 24 Dec 2021, it was reported that five well-known business leaders have banded together to treat Singapore’s resident badminton champion to a great Christmas gift.
After knowing that Loh will not be getting any money despite being crowned the world champion, they decided to band together to raise a sum of reward money for him.
The leaders are:
- Ang Kiam Meng, executive director and CEO of Jumbo Group
- Daryl Neo, founder and co-CEO of DC Frontiers
- Dora Hoan, group CEO and co-chairman of Best World International
- Eugene Ang, managing director of JK Technology
- Wei Chan, managing director of Pine Garden’s Cake
All of them are badminton enthusiasts who were previously featured on a Business Times article.
Chan Started The Ball Rolling
It came to Chan’s attention that Loh did not win any money despite winning the BWF World Championships.
The winner of the tournament was only given the title of World Champion and given a gold medal.
Thinking that Loh deserved more, Chan then reached out to fellow badminton enthusiasts in an effort to raise up a sum of money for him.
In the end, his efforts paid off and they managed to raise up S$50,000 as a form of reward and encouragement to Loh.

Loh Showed Singapore Can Make It In The Global Badminton Sporting Arena
According to Chan, Loh’s results has shown that Singapore can “make it” in the global badminton sporting arena.
He hopes that the fund that they’ve raised will be a form of encouragement to him, allowing him to continue chasing after his dreams.
“We hope that this fund will be a catalyst for Loh to continue pursuing his dreams, and encourage other budding badminton players out there about what’s truly possible in this sport.”
