Ilo Ilo Director Looking for Aspiring Actors Between 16YO to 22YO for His Next Movie; No Experience Needed

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to see your face blown up to an even bigger scale?

No, not because of allergies that give you swelling – but on the big silver screen for everyone to see.

Well, if you’ve always dreamed of joining the ranks of A-listers at the Star Awards and even other festivals worldwide, this just may be your big break.

Anthony Chen’s Casting Call

Worldwide-acclaimed Ilo Ilo’s film director Anthony Chen’s looking for fresh new talent to feature in his next masterpiece, and it could be you.

On 24 March, Chen shared a casting notice for his new movie, titled We Are All Strangers, on Facebook.

Students between the age of 16 and 22 are welcome to join, and the best part is that even if you don’t have any prior acting experience, you’re still encouraged to try it out.

The auditions are for both key and supporting roles, and Chen also added that his current focus was on finding a young teenage girl who could play as a Singaporean JC student.

However, if you’re under the age of 18, you’ll need your parents’ consent before taking part.

Applicants will embark on a series of auditions and performance workshops before the real casting happens in the second half of this year, with production slated to begin in 2022.

Sounds like an acting camp over the summer – how exciting!

If you’re interested in trying out for the auditions, you may send an email over to Chen at [email protected] with the e-mail header “AUDITION FOR WAAS” in addition to the following:

1) Full name

2) Age

3) Height

4) Contact information (phone/e-mail address)

5) Recent unedited selfies/photos

6) A self-recorded video of 60 seconds or less, where you need to talk about a movie you like and why

The deadline for the application closes on 16 April, Friday, at 6pm, so be sure to get them in on time! Shortlisted applicants will be contacted.

Final Film In The Director’s Famed Trilogy

We Are All Strangers will join Chen’s other famed feature films Ilo Ilo (2013) and Wet Season (2019) as part of his ‘Growing Up’ trilogy.

Yeo Yann Yann, 43, and Koh Jia Ler, 20, will reunite with the director in the final film, having played key roles in the other two films that gained them huge recognition.

Chen will continue exploring social class and familial relationships in We Are All Strangers, a dramatic story set during the times of COVID-19 where family ties become strained from the pressure.

“I have always been fascinated by the bonds and intimate connections struck between strangers and how kinship can be developed beyond blood ties. The idea of constructed families is a theme I have explored in both of my films,” Chen said when asked about the underlying themes of the films in the trilogy.

Strangers will be forced to become family this time around, he added.

So, dear reader, if you’ve always held a dream of acting close to your heart, shoot for the moon and you just might land on the stars like you aspire to be!
