A tragic accident occurred on the morning of 4 June, resulting in the death of a Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement officer, Mr Zdulfika Ahakasah, aged 26.
The incident happened while he was chasing a motorcyclist on the Seletar Expressway (SLE) towards Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE), near the Tampines Expressway (TPE) exit. The accident involved a motorcycle, two lorries, and a van.
Rider Failed to Stop When Ordered
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) reported that the officer was pursuing an 18-year-old motorcycle rider who was suspected of multiple offenses.
These included drug-related offenses, possession of scheduled weapons, dangerous driving, riding without a valid license, and without insurance coverage. The young rider had failed to stop when ordered by the officer, which led to the pursuit.
A video of the incident, shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, showed the chase in detail. At around 10:40AM, the footage captured the motorcyclist initially appearing to slow down, nearly coming to a stop.
However, the motorcyclist suddenly swerved to the right and cut into the path of a lorry. The LTA officer followed closely behind, but unfortunately crashed his motorcycle into a road divider.
The subsequent impact threw the officer off his bike, leading to his severe injuries.
LTA in Contact with Bereaved Family Members
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the scene and the officer was promptly taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the accident, a police car and tow truck were seen at the location, with debris from the crash scattered on the road.
A man claiming to be the officer’s cousin posted a wedding invitation in the comments section of SG Road Vigilante – SGRV, mentioning that Mr. Zdulfika was set to get married on 27 July.
“My cousin was supposed to get married next month. Now he is gone,” he wrote.
In response to the incident, LTA also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Mr Zdulfika Ahakasah.
“The Land Transport Authority is deeply saddened that LTA enforcement officer Mr Zdulfika Bin Ahakasah passed on in a fatal accident this morning. He is a valued member of our enforcement team.”
The LTA is also working closely with the Traffic Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and to ensure that the motorcyclist involved is brought to justice.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Daniel Tan, the Commander of Traffic Police, emphasized the gravity of the situation.
He stated, “This was a tragic loss of life of a fellow law enforcer who died while executing his duty to keep our roads safe. The police will investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that those responsible face the full brunt of the law.”
Since the tragic passing of the officer, both LTA and SG Road Vigilante have changed their social media profile pictures to black to reflect their sorrow.
