Do you ride an e-scooter? If you do, I’m pretty sure you’re frustrated at the recent news. There are black sheep out there marring the reputation of e-scooter riders everywhere in Singapore.
And to make it worse, Singaporeans are up in arms calling for the government to ban the use of e-scooters in the country.
Complaints of Reckless E-Scooter Riders On the Roads
LTA has pledged to take serious enforcement actions due to a series of incidents involving e-scooter riders.
They are zooming across zebra crossings, speeding on the walkways, overtaking vehicles and tailgating buses on the roads. When confronted at times for reckless riding, they verbally abused the pedestrians instead of apologising.
Well done.
LTA to Step Up Enforcement Actions
In response, LTA set up a series of operations to catch such errant riders.
On 15 October 2016 at Yishun, another rider was caught speeding and riding recklessly on the road and zoomed across a zebra crossing.
On 18 October 2016 at Upper Aljunied Road, they caught a rider who was speeding carelessly on the road. He was stopped by the officers and his e-scooter was confiscated.
The rider is currently assisting LTA in the investigation.
Illegal to Ride E-Scooters on the Road
Just in case you didn’t get the memo, you can’t ride on the road and LTA pledged to take serious actions against offenders.
Remember the guy who was caught zooming across the zebra crossing? He claimed he didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to do that. It didn’t help him at all.
Ignorance is not an excuse this time.
