Slowly but surely, one thing’s happening:
The Koreans are taking over the world.
Now you might be wondering; how? Are they building missiles? Did Steven Lim join a K-Pop boy band?
Well, it’s quite there. Yet it’s also not quite there. As it is, Korea is taking over the world through certain ‘shady’ pathways…
Like these.
And don’t even try to deny it; you’ve probably heard of them at some point in your life. Like… who wouldn’t have been entranced by Captain Yoo?
Aunt Matilda: Who’s that, your balding captain with the beer belly back in Army?
And to really drive my point home, I present to you LTA’s latest effort to showcase the new Cross-Island Line:
An honest to goodness Singapore Love Story that wouldn’t look out of place in a Korean drama.
CRL1: Sparking New Journeys
On 25 January, LTA Singapore released a promotional video, in which they advertised the up-and-coming Cross Island Line via a Korea-nized Singapore Love Story, on their YouTube Channel.
With the story taking on the premise of a typical ‘boy meets girl’ scenario, the video goes on to showcase the different stations that will be part of the new line, with the lead characters fleshing out several ‘train fantasies’.
And honestly speaking, it ain’t that bad! I would actually watch a part two if there’s one.
You can watch the full video here:
How did Netizens react to it though?
Now I know what you’re thinking;
Netizens are such a hard bunch to please; will this video even live up to their lofty expectations?
Well as it turns out, I would reckon that LTA’s effort, if anything else, wasn’t totally unwarranted. Negative comments were the minority, with Netizens appraising the cast and production team.
Though some did raise the question of how ‘illogical’ the whole concept is.
All in all, however, it seems that the vibe’s good. In fact, one even raved about how far LTA has come in its video production efforts…
And I genuinely agree.

More about the Cross-Island Line
According to Yahoo News, the Cross Island Line will be built in three phases. Phase 1 has since been finalised, with 12 MRT stations passing through areas such as Changi, Loyang, Pasir Ris, Ang Mo Kio, etc.
Construction work on Phase 1 is scheduled to start in 2020, with completion targeted by 2029. Spanning 29 kilometres, phase 1 is expected to benefit over 100,000 households and reduce travel time by 50 to 70 minutes.
This is according to Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who previously paid a site visit to the upcoming Bright Hill MRT station last Friday (25 Jan).
As it is, phases 2 and 3 have yet to be decided, though if the 2013 Transport Master Plan was to be believed, the entire project will have an overall length of around 50km, and is intended to be fully operational by 2030.
Maybe aliens have landed on Yishun by then.
