Kiss92 DJ Maddy Barber Quits Radio After Nearly 10 Years to Focus on Her Bespoke Jewellery Brand

Radio DJ Maddy Barber, a co-host of the breakfast show on Kiss92 FM, is quitting radio to focus on her bespoke jewellery brand, MADLY.

The 47-year-old mother of two had been a DJ for nearly a decade.

Here’s all that you need to know.

MADLY, Singapore

Barber founded MADLY in 2014, a jewellery brand specialising in coloured gems which aims to reform Singapore’s diamond-centric jewellery industry by sharing the beauty and knowledge of coloured gemstones.

MADLY is backed by a team of jewellery designers, graduates from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), as well as an in-house gem cutter.

Their coloured gemstone pieces are handcrafted in 18K gold and are customised to each client’s particular needs and preferences.

The company also promotes responsible mining and ensures that more of the value of the gem goes towards benefitting the individuals and communities at their source.

In addition, the company is equipped with an in-house gem laboratory where Madly team members can take up practical training to enhance their knowledge on gems.

Barber revealed that she had almost sold the business years ago for one tenth of what it is currently worth.

The business has since been thriving, and she has made the decision to quit radio in order to focus on developing the brand.

Maddy Barber on Leaving Radio

On leaving radio, Barber said, “Not many DJs can say that they’ve done the absolute best shows they were born to do, and got to do it with partners whom they have once-in-a-lifetime chemistry and connection with—I’ve done that, twice over!

“So, what’s next? Radio will always be my first love, but now is the time for me to put my heart and soul into growing MADLY. My most transformative years were spent here at SPH Radio and it will forever have a special place in my heart.”

Sim Hong Huat, general manager at SPH Radio, said, “It has been an amazing decade with Maddy and we’re definitely sad to see her leave. But more so, we’re happy that she is doing this for herself and her family, especially in these unprecedented times where emotional and mental wellbeing are so important.”

During the lead-up to her final show which will take place on 16 July, Barber will be giving away a MADLY jewellery experience worth S$10,000 every week to her listeners.

Wow, that’s the closest we’ll get to free cars for getting vaccinated!

The giveaway will take place over five weeks and includes a total of S$50,000 worth of jewellery.
