As society looks set to return to normal, it seems that late night scuffles, too, have resumed their course.

According to various news reports, eleven people have been apprehended near Central Mall. And the offence for which they were taken into custody?

A late-night brawl, and it’s not on the Nintendo Switch.

9 Police Cars and An Ambulance Arrived at Magazine Road to Spilt Up Late Night Brawl; 11 Men Arrested

According to various news reports, nine men aged between 25 and 38 have been apprehended for affray: a chimmer term to indicate a public brawl that’s not in the people’s interest.

In other words, it kind of disrupted the peace around here.

In addition, two men, aged 29 and 47, were also arrested for disorderly behaviour.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday (3 April 2021) near Central Mall, along Magazine Road.

In a police statement, the men in blue disclosed that they were summoned at 10:00 p.m. to break up a scuffle between two groups.

At least nine police cars turned up at the scene, alongside an ambulance.

Channel News Asia also reported that a number of the errant individuals seemed to be garbed in black.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.

Group Tussles

This incident may bring to mind the infamous WWE-esque fights that occurred back in December 2020.

On 6 Dec 2020, a large brawl occurred outside Textile Centre in Jalan Sultan.

Irate women could be seen swearing and tussling at each other, while equally incensed men were, in my colleague’s own words, “either engaged in some passionate lovemaking or in a skirmish that evolved into a wrestling match”.

7 men aged 18 to 32 were eventually arrested for affray after the incident.

Two of these men, aged 22 and 32, were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while conscious.

And then a mere week later, yet another skirmish took place near Prinsep Street.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of 10 December 2020, and involved a group of more than 10 men.

In my colleague’s own words: “Like a well-choreographed dance troupe, the large group of combatants glide across the street while trying to land as many blows as they can.”

But it soon became more of a WWE Royal Rumble match than a staged dance performance.

One man even picked up the lid of an incinerator bin and smacked an opponent’s head with it.

As our favourite WWE commentators would probably exclaim: “Did you look at that? What a hit, son!”

Later on, a man garbed in a white T-shirt would channel his inner Captain America and fling the lid towards his attackers.

The men later tried to strike each other with metal objects, but were eventually broken up by police officers.
