Update: According to THE CHEVRONS, the event has been cancelled due to “some unforeseen circumstances”.

Are you that fellow whose hand is always itchy at night, and after a call to three friends, the four of you would be swimming in a dry pool?

Are you that fellow who can live without a smartphone, without an Internet connection and without sleep, but you can’t survive a week without throwing a Mahjong tile and shouting “Hu!”?

And are you that fellow who went absolutely bonkers when you see this, and travelled all the way to Malaysia just to have your nails painted—even if you’re a manly guy?

If so, this is for you, because you no longer need to shine in the confines of your living room now: you can now show your love and your talent in a tournament and be crowned the king or queen of Mahjong.

Yeah, we do kid about microwaving kittens for fun, drinking our colleagues’ pee for punishment or eating chairs for Instagram, but we don’t kid about Mahjong.

 What’s THE CHEVRONS?

Anyone who’s served in the army most probably know about this club as it houses the first e-mart outside of military camp.

However, this club is more than an e-mart.

Technically speaking, it’s a club for SAF specialists and warrant officers (which explains the name, THE CHEVRONS, which is the shape of their rank). But though the years, it has evolved into a club that anyone can visit, though people with 11B (doesn’t matter if you’re a man, specialist or officer) enjoy more discounts. And members, who must be an NCO, have even more privileges.

Think of it as SAFRA club, but with just one location and with more facilities like a chalet.

So, anyone can join?

As you can see from the image, anyone can join, but it’ll be cheaper if you’re an NSF (currently serving NS) or a member.

So if you’re just civilian with Mahjong skills that deserves a medal of honour, you can join, too.

Here’s the Facebook Post they’ve uploaded earlier last week:

Where is THE CHEVRONS?

Oh, come on. If you’re a Mahjong siao, you’d even be willing to travel to Mars just for this once-in-a-lifetime tournament.

But if you really want to know, here you go:

THE CHEVRONS
48 Boon Lay Way Singapore 609961

It’s actually rather close to IMM, and you can technically walk from Jurong East MRT Station but it’s a long walk, so you might want to take a free shuttle bus from Jurong East or IMM that comes every 30 minutes.
