Maid Filmed Hitting 81YO Stroke Patient, Employer Pretended Not To Know About The Video

Maids are a godsend to busy Singaporeans. If you can afford them, that is.

But at the same time, Singaporeans don’t really trust maids. Not because they are a conniving bunch, but because their rep is tarnished by a selected few.

Like this maid that we’re going to talk about.

What Happened?

On 9 Aug at about 4.42 pm, a maid was spotted hitting an old lady in a wheelchair. She was filmed hitting the old lady in the head three times, making her cry out.

The video was taken by a fellow maid, Jenny, who witnessed the incident and decided to do something about it.

She sent the video to her former employer who decided to upload the video online.

News media outlets soon picked up the news and started poking around the estate.

The Maid Treats Her Well in Front of Others, But When Nobody’s Around…

A 35-year-old Indonesian maid, Ani, told reporters that the maid in the video treats the old lady very well in front of others.

However, she had also seen the maid scold the old lady when nobody is around.

She had even told the maid off once, telling her that the old lady shouldn’t be treated in this way.

The maid had claimed that she resorted to hitting the old lady because the old lady couldn’t hear really well.

Jenny, the maid who took the video told reporters that she had only been working with her new employer for four days.

She said, “I was downstairs with other domestic workers when I saw the maid hitting the ah ma several times. The ah ma cried out for at least 15 minutes, but the maid showed no sympathy and continued doing it.”

Unable to tolerate the behaviour anymore, she recorded the incident on her phone and sent it to her previous employer.

“I am unable to accept such rough treatment of an elderly person who can’t take care of herself. It’s really too cruel,” said Jenny.

Employer Knew About The Video But Kept Quiet

The employer of the maid in the video, Ms Zhuo, identified the elderly woman as her mother.

Ms Zhuo told reporters that even though she saw the video, she pretended not to know of it as she doesn’t want to “burn bridges with the maid”.

She did not want more drama for the time being.

She added that neighbours have told her about her maid’s behaviour, which includes scolding and shouting at her mother at the market.

Ms Zhuo wasn’t happy with her maid’s behaviour and said that she had plans to send the maid packing.

Maid Sent Away on 11 Aug

On 11 Aug, the maid was spotted leaving with her belongings.

The son of the elderly woman said that he has lodged a police report, as well as the Ministry of Manpower and an intermediary.

In fact, when the maid was confronted and sent packing, she was calm.

“The maid did not cry, plead for forgiveness or make a scene, and even said goodbye to my mother before leaving.”

Neighbours Stepped Forward With More Stories

After the incident, neighbours started coming forward with stories about what they’ve witnessed.

They revealed that this wasn’t the first time they saw the maid hitting his mother, and even claimed that they’ve seen his mother bleeding from her nose.

They didn’t know what to do as they did not have any evidence.

Meanwhile, the son claimed that he had treated the maid well. When he is at home, he’ll let the maid rest and take care of his mother.
