With the pandemic still raging on, sending and receiving parcels is not something unusual.
Especially if you’ve been online shopping.
But unless you’re operating illegally, you won’t be shipping parcels of drugs using mail service anytime soon.
I mean, can you imagine how horrible it would go? Singpost would probably lose the parcel before anyone gets a chance to smoke some weed.
Singaporean Man Tries to Send Drugs from Thailand to Singapore
On Thursday (3 Jun), a 27-year-old man was arrested in Thailand after attempting to use mail service to ship drugs into Singapore.
According to CNA, Teo was arrested in his room in the Lat Phrao district of Bangkok.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) made a post on Facebook on Friday (4 Jun), noting that 3kg of crystal methamphetamine, or “Ice”, and 1,320 ecstasy pills were seized at Suvarnabhumi Airport Post Office.
The drugs were hidden in two parcels meant to be shipped from Thailand to Singapore and the sender was Mr Teo, said Mr Thanakrit Jit-areerat, secretary to Thailand’s justice minister.
He added that officials also seized electrical items used to hide drugs, such as amplifiers, as well as packaging tools, digital scales and cannabis brownies in the room.
The CNB remains their firm stance on drugs and will work together with other regional partners to prevent drug trafficking activities.
“The CNB will continue to partner our foreign law enforcement counterparts in the exchange of timely intelligence or in conducting joint operations targeted at international drug trafficking activities, as well as to work closely with our Home Team partners to detect and prevent the flow of drugs into Singapore,” they wrote.
10Kg of Drugs Seized From Fernvale HDB
On Tuesday afternoon (26 May), officers from CNB conducted a raid at a residential unit near Fernvale Road.
There, they found more than 10kg worth of drugs, namely:
- 5,664g of heroin
- 2,538g of “Ice”
- 2,489g of cannabis
- 192 Ecstasy tablets
- 7 Erimin-5 tablets
703 nitrazepam tablets and S$28,000 in cash were also recovered. In total, the drugs seized are estimated to have a street value of almost S$944,000.
CNB said that this amount of drugs seized is sufficient to feed about 2,700 heroin abusers, 1,450 Ice abusers, and 355 cannabis abusers for a week.
Officers also arrested a 45-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman for suspected drug activities in the raid.
Before the raid, two children were also found to be playing outside the house. Aged only 10 and 11 years old, they were the children of the 31-year-old female suspect.
”Children are the unfortunate victims in many of such drug offences,” noted CNB
“Arrangements were made to ensure that the welfare of the children was taken care of. The children were subsequently placed in the safe custody of a next of kin,” the agency added.
