A 39-year-old man in Selangor, Malaysia was arrested on 12 Aug after police discovered he had fathered a child through an incestuous relationship with his 16-year-old daughter.
The case came to light following a fabricated report about an abandoned baby.
Security Guard’s Fabricated Baby Discovery Leads to Incest Investigation
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Naazron Abd Yusof stated that the police received a report from a security guard on 11 Aug at about 1:56am.
The 29-year-old guard claimed he had found a baby in a box near a shop beside a petrol station in Batu 14, Hulu Langat district of Selangor.
The guard told police he believed an unknown individual had abandoned the baby. However, investigations revealed the guard was working with the father to conceal the birth.
Police found the baby was less than one week old and in good health. The newborn was sent to hospital for observation.
Father and Security Guard Conspired to Hide Incestuous Birth
The investigation uncovered that the baby was born from an incestuous relationship between the 39-year-old man and his teenage daughter. The girl was not attending school at the time of the incident.
Mohd Naazron confirmed the security guard was “in cahoots with the man” and that “the so-called discovery was fabricated to conceal the birth”. The two men conspired to create a false story about finding the abandoned newborn.
Acting on information, police detained the father, his daughter, and the security guard on 12 Aug. The two male suspects have been remanded for one and six days respectively.
The teenage girl was released on police bail and hospitalised for further examination and treatment.
Case Investigated Under Child Abandonment and Incest Laws
Police are investigating the case under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child and Section 376(3) for incest.
If convicted under Section 317, the offender faces imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both. Section 376(3) carries imprisonment of between eight and 30 years and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane.
