A 12-year-old disabled girl was rescued safely in Butterworth, Penang, after a man stole the car she was sitting in.
The incident occurred at around 5:30pm on Friday (20 Jun) in Penaga, when the girl’s mother briefly stepped out of the vehicle to deliver engine oil to her husband’s workshop in Kepala Batas.
The woman left her daughter inside the car with the engine still running. When she returned moments later, both the car and her child had disappeared.

Desperate Search Using Mobile Tracking App
The family immediately launched a frantic search with help from a friend. After initial attempts to locate the car failed, the mother used the Life360 mobile tracking app to trace her phone’s location.
According to the app, her phone, which remained with her daughter, was in Bagan Lalang, Butterworth.
Police from the Seberang Prai Utara district’s Criminal Investigation Department responded quickly to the tip-off. Officers from the Butterworth police station provided support during the operation.
A male suspect in his 60s was arrested at the scene. Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman, Chief of the Seberang Prai Utara district police, revealed the suspect had a criminal record involving seven past offences and 11 drug-related charges.
Girl Found Safe, Case Under Investigation
The girl was discovered unharmed in the stolen vehicle. She was immediately taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a complete medical check-up as a precautionary measure.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle and Section 363 for kidnapping.
Police have appealed to members of the public who witnessed the incident or have additional information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
