Former Malaysian Principal Jailed 107 Years for Sexual Crimes Against 16-Year-Old Student

On 24 June 2025, former school principal Rosli Abd Rahman was sentenced to 107 years in jail by the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court.

60-Year-Old Ex-Principal Found Guilty of 13 Sexual Offences Against Minor

The 60-year-old was found guilty of 13 charges involving sexual crimes against a 16-year-old student.

Judge Mohd Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli delivered the verdict after determining that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt. The offences occurred in Kuala Terengganu district and Marang between November 2020 and November 2021.

The charges included sexual communication, physical sexual assault and rape of the victim who was 16 years old at the time of the incidents.

Detailed Breakdown of Charges and Sentencing Structure

The court convicted Rosli Abd Rahman on multiple counts across different sections of Malaysian law. He faced five counts under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code for rape. Four counts were filed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child.

Two counts were brought under Section 11(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for sexually communicating with a child. One count each was filed under Section 14(c) and Section 14(d) of the same Act for physical sexual assault on a child.

The sentencing structure varied according to the severity of each charge. For charges under Section 11(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, the court imposed one year in jail. Charges under Sections 14(a), 14(c) and 14(d) of the same Act carried five years each.

Each charge under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code resulted in a 15-year jail sentence. The jail terms run from the date of conviction.

Court Allows Concurrent Sentences and Stay of Execution

The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently rather than consecutively. This means Rosli Abd Rahman will serve 15 years in prison.

Judge Mohd Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli granted a stay of execution pending an appeal. The court set bail at RM40,000 (~SGD12,000).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noradila Ab Latif led the prosecution team. Lawyer Abdul Rahman Razak represented the accused throughout the proceedings.
