“You are the most psychotic person I have met in my entire life”.

These are not the words you would expect to hear from your BFF, unless it was said in jest.

But this is exactly what one Malaysian woman said to her best friend after she created a fake boyfriend to emotionally manipulate her.

It sounds pretty bad, but the actual story is much, much worse.

M’sian Creates a Fake Boyfriend for Her Best Friend So That She Could Emotionally Manipulate Her

It all started in Dec 2018, when the two women – Rachel and KY – met during an event.

They discovered they shared the same birthdate, and a friendship soon blossomed.

But even after the two grew closer, Rachel seemed determined to gain more of KY’s attention.

So, she had two choices:

  1. Ask KY to hang out more
  2. Create a fake boyfriend and put KY through emotional distress just so she could talk to her more.

As you probably guessed, Rachel went for the second option.

And here is where the “psychotic” behaviour begins.

According to SAYSRachel used photos of an attractive person from Instagram to create social media accounts for “Daniel”, a non-existent male who she would later set up with KY.

In her little fabricated world, Daniel was her godbrother, and lived in Singapore.

In a bid to get more of her attention, Rachel tried to set up KY with the virtual persona, and it worked.

In Feb 2019, KY started chatting with Daniel on WeChat, but unbeknownst to her, she was actually talking to her best friend Rachel, who was impersonating him.

You might be wondering, how could KY be so gullible?

Well, what you don’t know is that Rachel has the guile and artifice of a Bond villain.

To bring her non-existent creation to life, Rachel used a voice-changing application and even sang classical Chinese love songs to KY.

KY fell in love with Daniel, and the two began a long-distance relationship.

Rachel should have come clean then, but she decided to continue the charade.

She introduced a new character in her story – Cindy, her godmother – and even diagnosed her non-existent godbrother with leukemia (blood cancer).

To make it believable, she scoured the net for medical reports and photographs in the hospital, and showed them to KY through Daniel.

Whenever KY was in a good mood, Daniel would tell her that his condition deteriorated, depressing KY.

At some point in their relationship, Rachel made up an incident where Daniel attempted suicide and was rushed to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

She even went to a private hospital and took photos for KY, to make it more believable.

Cindy – Rachel’s imaginary godmother – asked at the time if KY would like to speak to Daniel, who was lying unconscious on the hospital bed.

“I talked for 26 minutes while crying. I bet you were dying from laughter on the other end,” KY said.

To win some sympathy points, Rachel then informed KY that her imaginary godmother had sadly passed on.

Deaths in the fictitious world are especially painful.

This, of course, depressed KY even further.

Apologised for Actions After She Was Caught

At some point, KY uncovered Rachel’s lies and exposed them in a series of Instagram stories last December.

Rachel then apologised to KY in an Instagram post, and their strange, Korean-drama relationship soon caught the attention of netizens.

“Over the past two years, I have been friends with her (KY) and also chatted with her as the boyfriend (Daniel) in order to rope her close to me, controlling her emotions and life for two years,” Rachel said.

“Today, I cannot forgive myself for causing her so much harm, especially when she used to trust me and treat me sincerely.”

“Once again, I want to say sorry to KY and her family. Sorry for the harm I caused to you.”

Unlike when you have to cancel a dinner with your friend at the last moment, I’m afraid “sorry” just won’t suffice here.
