If we all had our way, losing weight would be as easy as losing money.

But, alas, it’s one of the hardest things to do in life.

Typically, there are two very simple but huge obstacles to our weight loss plans.

  1. It requires exercise, which would require us to get off our couch: an impossibility
  2. It would require us to eat less: an even bigger impossibility

This is why many of us turn to dangerous methods of weight loss such as crash diets and slimming products to lose those extra calories while binge-watching shows on Netflix.

And while most people manage to come out unharmed, some people pay for this risk with their life.

23-YO M’sian Died After Going Through Liposuction in an Unlicensed Beauty Salon

A 23-year-old Malaysian model died after a liposuction procedure in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur went horribly wrong.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Coco Siew was preparing for her wedding with her boyfriend in South Africa next year.

She came home to Malaysia for liposuction surgery for her arms to look good on her special day.

Siew’s brother told Sin Chew Daily that Siew found the beauty salon online and paid RM2,500 (S$817) for the surgical procedure.

She had booked an appointment on Saturday (17 Oct) at 2.30pm and went to the salon with a few friends.

Upon her arrival, Siew was reportedly given an anaesthetic injection. However, within just half an hour of the procedure, one of Siew’s friends noticed that the aesthetic doctor was visibly flustered, and sensed that something had gone wrong.

And something had indeed gone very wrong.

Though Siew’s friend immediately called the ambulance and rushed her friend to the hospital, it was too late.

She was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at 5pm.

Clinic and Surgeon May Not Have Had Licenses

While we don’t know what exactly went wrong during the procedure, Siew’s family received some troubling answers when they questioned the people involved.

According to Siew’s brother, the person in charge of the beauty salon revealed that her salon did not have an aesthetic clinic license, and that they were operating under an ordinary beauty salon license.

Oh, but it gets worse.

The aesthetic doctor, who carried out the procedure on Siew, said she didn’t have a professional aesthetic medical license either.

When he did a little more digging, Siew’s brother discovered the business was registered as a beauty product wholesaler by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), meaning they may have done all their cosmetic procedures illegally.

“I hope my sister’s experience will serve as a warning to other young women so that a tragedy like this won’t happen again,” he said.

Salon Hasn’t Apologised Yet

According to China Pressthe family is yet to receive an apology or an admission of guilt from the salon.

Instead, the aesthetic doctor has deleted all her social media pages.

A check by SAYS showed that the salon offered several other cosmetic procedures as well, which will certainly raise alarm bells.

Be wary of cosmetic salons and beauty products, especially if they promise unusually quick results at incredibly low prices.

If you really want to shed some pounds, the best way is still to take a few laps around the track.
