Best Summer Internship
CoCo collection, a luxury resort in the Maldives, is looking for an intern. The internship will span across two weeks in August.
You won’t be stuck on our small, sunny island, though. You’ll be flown to Maldives for this once-in-a-lifetime internship opportunity.
The lucky intern will be working on the Olive Ridley Project (ORP) for those two weeks.
And it’s not just any internship. It’s an internship with a cause.
Olive Ridley Project
The ORP aims to rescue and rehabilitate injured sea turtles, with the most common species being Olive Ridley seat turtles. Hence, the name of the project.
Aside from that, their mission is to remove ghost nets from the ocean, reuse and reduce marine debris, and educate the world about the danger of ghost nets and the unsafe situation the sea turtles are in.
Which is, by the way, very devastating.

And which, by the way, is much more useful than using metal straws for a day.
Their community is made up of volunteers, citizen scientists, environmentalists and Marine Biologists around the Indian Ocean.
In 2017, the Marine Turtle Rescue Centre at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu resort was opened in partnership with CoCo collection. It is the first fully-equipped marine turtle rescue centre in Maldives.
It has a laboratory and surgical facilities, as well as a full-time resident turtle veterinarian. It can also accommodate up to eight turtle patients at a time.
This is where the lucky intern will be working at.

Responsibilities
Keen to sign up? Here’s the list of responsibilities you’ll have to fulfil while you’re on this internship:
- Feeding the turtles
- Cleaning holding tanks
- Observing surgeries and medical procedures
- Attending rescue missions to collect turtles in need
- Assisting with the release of rehabilitated turtles back into the ocean
- Interacting with guests who visit the centre and giving them information on the turtles staying at the centre
- Attending any Olive Ridley Project presentation evenings
- Posting on the Olive Ridley Project’s social media platforms, to update on your personal progress and show a behind-the-scenes look of the Rescue Centre

She’s one of the UK’s leading specialist turtle veterinary surgeons, and also the lead veterinarian at the Olive Ridley Project. That’s a very important role.

Meals will be provided by the villa’s restaurant as well.
