Man Charged for Attacking Woman Who Didn’t Keep Lift Doors Open for Him in CCK HDB Block

You’ve just reached home after a long day at work, and you’re about to pass out from tiredness.

Taking the stairs seems like a fate worse than death, so you decide to take the lift.

However, as you approach the lift, you see another resident pressing the button to quicky close the lift doors so you wouldn’t make it in time.

So, what do you do?

a) Curse under your breath and wait two minutes for the next lift

b) Literally anything except attack the person in the lift

Unfortunately, one man chose neither option a) nor b), and ended up getting charged for it.

According to CNASeo Chye Sin was unemployed at the time of the attack.

He was hospitalised between June 2015 to August 2016 for a stroke and suffered from hemiplegia – weakness on one side of the body.

Consequently, he had to use a walking stick.

At around 7pm on 27 Jan last year, the victim, a 49-year-old woman, entered the lift at an HDB block in Choa Chu Kang.

Seo was approaching the lift and asked the woman to wait for him, but she pressed the lift button for the fourth floor instead and the doors began to close.

In other words, she didn’t want Seo to get into the lift.

Seo managed to stop the lift doors from closing, however, using his walking stick.

He entered the lift, and pressed the button for the 15th floor.

He then asked the victim why she hadn’t waited for him, and they started arguing.

Punched Victim’s Head Several Times

For some reason, the lift did not stop at the fourth floor, where the victim wanted to get off, so she pressed the button again.

At this point, Seo said “Press harder lah”, and the two of them stared at each other.

When the left reached the 15th floor, Seo walked out, but stopped the doors from closing and asked the woman, “What do you want?”

A scuffle ensued, and both Seo’s walking stick and the victim’s phone fell to the floor.

Seo pushed the victim on her upper chest, and she pushed him away.

Then, when the woman bent down to pick her phone up, Seo punched her head a few times, prompting the woman to shout for help.

Seo’s wife and son heard her and rushed to the lift lobby to separate the pair.

Fined S$3,750

The victim ended up with a large bruise over her temple. A friend of hers contacted the police, and the matter was moved to court.

On Tuesday (27 Oct), Seo pleaded guilty to a charge each of voluntarily causing hurt and using criminal force and was fined S$3,750.

A third charge was also taken into consideration, according to CNA.

Seo’s defence lawyer asked for leniency, in light of his medical condition.

The prosecutor, however, believed Seo was “demonstrably aggressive” towards the victim, as he had targeted a vulnerable part of the victim’s body.

While it certainly wasn’t nice to close the doors on a sick man, there’s no excuse for attacking someone so violently.

If someone closes the lift doors on you, simply wait for the next one to arrive. Or, better yet, take the stairs. Your heart will thank you later.

Would you be jailed for being half-naked in public? Well, the answer will shock you. Seriously. Watch this to the end and you'll understand:
