Back in secondary school, my form teacher had a tendency to preach this particular phrase, every single day without fail:

“Don’t do drugs, kids. No matter the circumstances. They f*ck you up.”

But I never realised the exact intensity behind her words until today, when I read this particular article:

Man Broke into Condo to Steal Money & Also Used the Toilet & Took a Pair of Shorts

Well, that’s another legitimate reason to stay ‘clean’, I guess.

Before the money, toilet and a pair of shorts, a maid was violated in her own room

It all happened on the evening of 3 November.

According to TODAYonline, a condominium security guard had called in sick to work, but put on his work uniform hours later and appeared at the condo.

The 33-year-old, whose real name’s Jeffry Ali, is believed to have smoked methamphetamine three hours prior to his appearance (The court heard that Jeffry smoked methamphetamine around two to three times a week, in order to keep himself alert during his night shifts. He had been taking the drug for eight years).

At around 5:20 a.m. that morning, he reached the condominium premises in Choa Chu Kang, and infiltrated the house through an open window.

Armed with a pair of scissors from the kitchen, he entered the bedroom, where the 34-year-old maid was sound asleep alongside her employer’s two young children. It was then that Jeffry pulled her legs and told her to be quiet.

Out of fear for the children’s safety, she reportedly didn’t struggle.

Jeffry then started kissing the maid all over her face and said that he was going to marry her. Evidently feeling high, he stood up and lifted her legs up.

At that point, the children’s grandmother walked in and yelled to notify her daughter and son-in-law. When the couple headed over to the bedroom, Jeffry threatened them with the scissors, though he allowed them to take the children from the room.

The maid, however, was still being held down by him on the mattress. Jeffry told the couple to leave and close the door, but the couple responded by saying that they would call the police. When they went to get help from their neighbours, he tried to escape from the window, failed and ended up leaving through the main door instead.

Free bathroom service

Later that day, at around 9:30 a.m., Jeffry’s believed to have struck again. This time around, he was spotted going into an apartment’s master bedroom and using the toilet.

As he was believed to be a guest at the apartment, no alarms were raised.

Two hours later, the apartment’s original resident returned home from a camping trip with her husband and family. It was around then that they heard sounds from the television set in their bedroom, which was followed by someone jumping out of the window.

Jeffry was subsequently arrested at 12:00 p.m. at the basement car park, donning a pair of red Bermuda shorts. He confessed to stealing it, alongside S$212 and RM643 (S$212) in cash, from the residents.

According to TODAYonlinepolice officers also discovered his private security identification card, a debit card and drug utensils in the bedroom of the apartment where he had molested the maid.

Sentencing

On 11 July, Jeffry was sentenced to three years and four months’ jail, as well as three strokes of the cane for his offences, which were committed on 4 Nov last year (2018).

He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated outrage of modesty, one count of housebreaking to commit theft and one count of consuming a specified drug.

Four other charges, including causing hurt to his victim, were also taken into consideration for sentencing.

Moral of the story here?

Don’t do drugs, not even if it’s for a ‘beneficial’ cause. It might admittedly have its pros, but as this article serves to remind us;

You never know when its cons will act up too.
