Accidents happen, it’s a fact of life. What matters is how we react in such situations.

For instance, when you hit someone with your car, there are a few things you could do.

A) Check if the victim is OK and call the ambulance
B) Check if the victim is OK and drive them to the hospital
C) Check if the victim is OK and shout “DOCTOR, DOCTOR” in the hopes that a doctor will pop up

Unfortunately, one man in China went for secret option D) Check if the victim is OK, pretend to rush them to the hospital and then burn them to death.

Oh yes, that happened.

Man Burns Old Woman To Death After Crashing His Van Into Her To Avoid Paying Her Medical Bills

One man in China resorted to drastic measures to avoid paying the medical expenses of a 60-year-old woman he had knocked down with his van.

According to Oriental Daily, the incident had occurred in China last year.

On that day, the woman was riding her tricycle to the market to sell vegetables. On her way there, the man, named Zeng, accidentally knocked her down with his van.

He then pretended to take the woman to the hospital, but drove her to a deserted mountainous area and pushed her out of the van instead.

But he wasn’t just leaving her to die, he was going to make sure she did.

So, he took a rock from the side of the road and smashed her head, after which he grabbed a blunt object from his car and hit her on the head again.

Unfortunately, he didn’t stop there.

He pushed the woman to a ditch nearby, poured gasoline all over her body, and set her on fire.

You’re probably wondering, what could compel someone to do such a horrific thing?

When arrested, Zeng explained that he had killed the poor old woman because he didn’t want to be financially responsible for her medical expenses.

Police investigations revealed that the man had an outstanding payment of 200,000 yuan (around S$38,500) from a previous traffic accident back in 2013.

On Friday (18 Oct), the man was sentenced to death for intentional homicide.

This serves a cautionary tale for us all; living life in debt can be tough, but it’s not worth killing someone over.

There are some things in life that are more important than money.
