A wise old man once said: I love cars. They’re the only thing in Singapore that’s not decided by fate but by how hard you work.

Granted, you got to work damn hard to own a car in Singapore.

And you have to get past your Singaporean sensibilities to make yourself get a depreciating asset.

But there exist some people in the world who are not fated to drive their own car no matter how hard they work or how rich they are.

Like this poor dude in Jiangsu.

And when I say poor, I don’t mean money-wise. Read on.

Man Finally Gets Driving License on 9th Attempt

Not so long ago in the Southern province of China, a legendary man decides that he must have a driving license.

So for 13 months straight, he went for the driving test one after another.

Despite failing, he did not give up.

Finally, on the 9th attempt, just like how a cat dies on its 9th fall, he finally got his driving license.

And just like any other human being with friends, he decided that this occasion shouldn’t be celebrated alone.

He should celebrate with friends and impart upon them the wisdom of never giving up.

And what’s a celebration with alcohol, right?

So there he was, happily drinking with his friends.

And after a joyous night, he left and drove home with his spanking new driving license. In the wrong direction.

No, he didn’t get lost on his way home.

He Drove Against The Traffic Instead

The police spotted him driving against the traffic and pulled him over.

Then, they made him do an alcohol breathalyser test

And realised that he was drink-driving.

In China, the blood alcohol limit is 0.05%, which is 50mg/dl. From the image below, it seems like he exceeded it by more than two times.

He was found guilty of drink-driving.

The punishment?

His license was suspended with immediate effect.

And if that’s not enough, he is banned from taking driving tests for the next five years.

So at the end of the day, his one year of effort only allow him to drive for a few hours legally.

Some have said that this guy just isn’t fated to drive in this lifetime.

On a separate note, don’t drink and drive, people. Your dog says so.

Singapore P-plate System

Lest you’re not aware, if you’re a new driver in Singapore, the chance of having your license revoked is much higher.

I’m sure you’ve seen this on cars before:

The inverted red underwear must be displayed for all drivers who just got their license for less than a year.

And unlike other drivers, these P-plate drivers would have their license revoked should they get 13 or more demerit points, compared to normal drivers whose license would be suspended (meaning they can get it back) if they get 24 demerit points or more in two years.

So lesson here is simple: don’t get overconfident when you just get your license.
