There are many heinous things one could choose to commit: thievery, assault on a defenceless victim, etc. etc.
But unbeknownst to the rest of mankind (probably), there exists a single heinous thing that’s so evil, so damned that the perpetrator had better watch their backs for instant karma:
A combination of thievery and assault.
And guess what? This article you’re about to embark on…
It’s exactly that.
What happened?
According to The New Paper, an unidentified man had followed a woman into a lift, before beating her up and stealing her wallet. The incident occurred at an MRT station in Cheras (KL, not Singapore) last Thursday (14 Feb).
Closed-circuit television footage has been released, and this is what is believed to have gone down.
- Woman enters the lift, and the man follows suit
- The moment the lift doors close, the man delivers a powerful right hook on the side of the woman’s head, which floors her instantly
- He punches her several more times, before dragging her across the floor and snatching her handbag. The woman struggles to keep possession of her handbag, which led to another flurry of punches and kicks by the man
- At this point, the elevator doors open (at one of the station’s floor). The man pins the woman to the side of the elevator, standing still so as to avoid ‘unwanted’ attention
- When the doors shut, the man kicks and punches the woman a few more times, and even uses her own bag as an assault weapon
- The lift moves down a floor, and the woman attempts to stand. It’s futile, however, as the action was met with more kicks and punches
- As he ransacks her belongings, she seems to be begging the man to return her handbag, stretching her hands towards him
- At this point, the elevator doors open again, but the man was done. After fishing out the woman’s wallet, he drops the bag and charges out of the elevator. His victim then follows suit, seemingly dazed
The woman was determined to have suffered multiple injuries, including bruises on her forehead after the attack. Now I might not know much about Valentine’s Day in general, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t the surprise Valentine would have wanted.
Nationwide hunt
Following the incident, Kuala Lumpur’s police force has leapt into action. In a bid to nip the issue in the bud (before sprouts grow), a 200-strong task force has been gathered to capture the criminal.
Additionally, a RM 10,000 (S$3,300) bounty has been proffered to potential witnesses. In a statement released yesterday (17 Feb), Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said that his office is offering the hefty bounty to anyone with reliable information on the assault incident.
“The police have yet to identify the assailant. It is hoped that the cash offer will lead to the robber’s arrest immediately.
“My biggest fear is that if he is not caught soon, his actions may influence other villains to commit such crimes in a similar fashion in lifts, or in obscure corners all over the country,” said Mr Lim.
Well-put, Mr Lim, and I couldn’t agree more. As such, here’s hoping that the criminal will be apprehended swiftly and efficiently, and that the victim will make a speedy recovery, physically and mentally.
(Update on 19 February, 2019, 10:28 a.m.: A 26-year-old male has been arrested.)
