Selflessness is a foreign concept to many humans.

This is why we have restaurants pouring alcohol into teapots and American presidents talking about how they can walk down steep ramps instead of addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

This isn’t new, of course. Humans have always been selfish. Why else would your sibling and you still fight over the last slice of pizza at the age of 46?

But sometimes, one individual will come along and blow you away with his awe-inspiring disregard for those around him.

40YO Man With HIV Accused Of Having Sex With 14YO Girl; He Didn’t Reveal His Condition

A 40-year-old Singaporean allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl despite knowing he had the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Not just that, he had sex with her 17 times, according to TODAY.

The man was first charged in December last year, and faces 34 charges in total, including 17 counts each of:

  • sexual penetration of a minor under 16
  • engaging in sexual activity without informing his partner about his condition

The 40-year-old reportedly met the girl while volunteering at an animal shelter. They also live near each other.

He is accused of having penetrative sex with her 13 times from 22 Sept to 3 Dec last year and attempting to have sex with her on four other occasions in September.

He was charged two days after the last alleged act, though it’s unclear how he was caught.

The man said he intends to plead guilty, but first needs certain documents from MOH and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, where he is being treated.

Need to Inform Sexual Partners of Condition

For the uninitiated, HIV is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases.

It is spread by contact with bodily fluids, most commonly during unprotected sex or through sharing injection equipment.

If you have HIV and you have sex with a partner who is aware that you have HIV and consents to the act, then that’s fine and dandy.

However, if you have HIV, you have a legal obligation to tell your sexual partners about your condition under the Infectious Diseases Act, which means you can’t have sex with someone without them knowing about your condition.

There is no cure for HIV and if left untreated, patients could develop Aids which is potentially fatal.

It’s unclear, however, if the young girl contracted the virus.

For sexually penetrating a minor, the man could be jailed up to 10 years, fined, or both for each charge.

And as for engaging in sexual activity without informing the girl of his condition, he could be jailed up to 10 years, fined up to S$50,000, or both.
