“Don’t naughty, or the policeman will come and catch you” was a pretty common threat of our childhoods, being raised by strict Asian parents and all.
While most of us shy away from the sight of a policeman, some of us take the road less travelled and decide to fight a police officer.
Which is honestly not very smart, but Naveen Lal Pillay did it anyway.

How to Start a Fight 101
On 1 July 2019, 9.40 a.m., Naveen had actually fallen asleep in a taxi and the driver went to a police station because he would not wake up.
When the police managed to wake him up, he started getting agitated and raised his voice back at them.
Cue nice guy Station Inspector (SI) Teo Kai Leong, who tried to reason with Naveen and get him home.
Surprisingly, Naveen did leave…
…only to return to the police station to demand to speak with one of the officers.
And THEN when SI Teo tried to calm down, all he got in return fighting threats such as, “You come, ah! You come, ah!”
So the guy got arrested and escorted to the Woodlands Division Report Lodging Area at around 10:00 a.m. Normally the administrative work for arrest gets done and the tale ends here.
Post-Arrest ShenanigansÂ
During the admin process, Naveen kept on hurling vulgarities and making rude gestures towards the officers.

In fact, he got so mad, he picked up one of his shoes and flung it towards a group of auxiliary police officers. Pretty sure at this point the guy is basically just asking for something to happen to him.
True enough, karma works extremely hard.
After being released on bail, Naveen re-offended a week later. Real smart move, dude.
Deja Vu
On July 8, at about 2.30 p.m., he alighted from a Grab car that he had taken with his girlfriend and proceeded to puke on it. He even argued with the driver and kicked the car.
Do you know what the police officers did when they found him at the void deck of Block 477 Sembawang Drive?

Of course, he got arrested again.
When SI Wong Teck Cheng (note the name: it’s a different officer) began interviewing him, he once more yelled insults and vulgarities. Eventually, Naveen once again wound up at Woodlands Division Report Lodging Area.
I know what is in your mind right now, “He’s DEFINITELY not going to do anything silly now right?”
Wrong.
Sitting close to auxiliary officer Mr Chiang Wei Loong, Naveen decided to threaten and kick his right leg right around the knee. He even went on to spit on an officer who ignored him.

Yeah, this was definitely one of those people who never did corrections on their homework.
Past Records and Sentencing
Want more proof of that previous statement?
Deputy Public Prosecutor Koh Mun Keong told the court that Naveen was previously prosecuted in 2016 for disorderly behaviour. Including the above two offences, that would be three strikes.
But apparently, the rules of baseball do not apply, because in 2017 there was also an account of him using abusive language towards a public servant.
Fourth…strike?
So on yesterday (21 August 2019), Naveen was sentenced to 20 weeks’ jail. He pleaded guilty to six assorted charges, including disorderly behaviour and using criminal force on a public servant. Five other similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.

…9 strikes?
They say old habits die hard, but people can change (if they want). You too can start, by doing your homework corrections at least.
These five GRCs could see the tightest battle in GE2025; here’s why:
