While more Singaporeans are starting to learn to comply with safe distancing measures, there will always be some who never learn.
Like this dude who decided it was okay to go around making racist comments online.
What Happened
On 18 Apr 2020, the police received a report regarding “offensive content” against Indian migrant workers on Twitter.
The comments were made by an account with the handle @Sharonliew86.
Which is known to make insensitive comments like these on Twitter:
The account was reportedly removed on Saturday.
After extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTVs and police cameras, the police managed to establish the identity of “Sharon Liew”.
And, in true internet fashion, it turns out that the very pretty @Sharonliew86 was allegedly a 34-year-old man.
Reader Bao: Wait…I thought you knew everybody lies on the internet?
I don’t.
Reader Bao: You want me to show everyone your display picture on Coffee Meets Bagel?
Moving on.
He Might’ve Been Responsible For Two Other Cases
In their statement, the police say that the man might be a serial offensive tweeter and could be involved in two other cases involving offensive tweets.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in two other cases involving offensive tweets.”
Should the man be found guilty, he can be jailed for up to 3 years, fined, or both.
The police added that they will take such crimes seriously, especially during this time where everyone in Singapore needs to stand together as one, not be divided by people who have too much time on their hand.
Okay, so maybe the last part was my own addition but you get what I mean.
Reader Bao: And you say you don’t lie…?

Previously, a guy who was filmed going on a racist rant went viral overnight.
The SPF was alerted to the incident and made it a priority to track him down and investigate him for his actions.
Back then, they said:
“Any person who makes remarks that can cause ill-will and hostility between the different races will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.”
Seems like they’re taking their promises seriously.
For the other internet trolls out there, remember, you might feel anonymous when you’re writing stuff online.
But as this incident has shown, you’re not truly anonymous. It’s just whether the authorities decide whether you’re worth the effort to catch or not.
You can run, but you can’t hide. Not even on the internet.
