Man Jailed For Tying Girlfriend to Chair & Hitting Her Because He Was ‘Upset’

When you’re upset with your partner, there are a few things you can do:

  1. Talk to them about your grievances
  2. Go to couples therapy
  3. Tie them up and threaten them with a samurai sword

Now, I hope that last option didn’t appeal to you, because it’s not a rational nor nice approach to this issue.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what one man did to his girlfriend when he was unhappy with her.

Man Jailed For Tying Girlfriend to Chair & Hitting Her Because He Was Upset

A 30-year-old Singaporean pleaded guilty on Tuesday (16 March) to one count each of assault and criminal intimidation after abusing his girlfriend.

Joshua Ng Weijie was sentenced to three years and five months’ jail and fined $2,100.

According to The Straits Times, Ng and his girlfriend had been together since 2017. At the time of the offences, the couple were living together in a condominium unit which she had rented.

In January and March of last year, Ng started exhibiting abusive behaviour, as he assaulted her after they argued.

On one occasion, Ng beat her up and tied her to a chair.

Then, in early April last year, Ng asked his girlfriend to borrow $3,000 from a loan shark. His girlfriend did as she was instructed, and reminded him to repay the loan on time.

Most of us would probably thank our significant others for the reminder, but for some unknown reason, this infuriated Ng and he punched his girlfriend’s face.

Towards the end of April, Ng also threatened his girlfriend with a samurai sword.

For what?

Telling him to go to sleep.

When she asked him to go to sleep, an argument ensued, and Ng assaulted his girlfriend. He then left the bedroom and returned with a samurai sword.

Yes, a freaking samurai sword.

He then unsheathed the sword in front of his girlfriend and placed the blade of the sword against her left collar bone.

Needless to say, this was the last straw for the woman. She alerted the police later that day and Ng was soon arrested.

When the woman was taken to hospital, the staff found multiple bruises, including some on her chest and right shin.

Other Charges

In addition to assault and criminal intimidation, Ng admitted to three other unrelated charges, including drug consumption and driving without a valid licence.

He had reportedly consumed methamphetamine and drove a car without a valid licence last year.

For this, he was also disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for a year.
