Whether it’s due to financial anxieties, being separated from family members, or being cooped up at home, many have had to deal with mental health issues since the coronavirus emerged.
Some manage to seek help and treatment and are able to cope with their illnesses, but others aren’t so lucky.

35YO Man Stood on the Ledge of Yishun Block as Crowd Gathers Opposite to Watch
On Monday afternoon (24 May), some residents in the vicinity of Block 356 Yishun Ring Road came across a worrying sight: a man standing on a ledge between the 9th and 10th storey of the block.
Soon, a crowd had gathered around the block to watch as the incident unfolded.
Unsurprisingly, some took photos and videos of the incident and uploaded them online.
CNU Officers Managed to Convince Man to Get Back Inside Building
At around 4.59pm that day, someone called the police, and officers soon arrived on the scene.
When they arrived, the man was still standing on the ledge between the 9th and 10th storey.
Officers from the police’s Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were also activated, and arrived as well.
At around 6.20pm, CNU officers finally convinced the man to get back inside the building, with the help of police officers.
Speaking to Stomp, the SCDF said they deployed a safety life air pack and that rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were on standby as a precautionary measure.
The man, 35, was later apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. Fortunately, he didn’t injure himself during the incident.
38YO Arrested Under Mental Health Act in March
Just two months ago, another man was arrested under the Mental Health Act.
On 17 March, the police received a call about a Caucasian man who had locked himself inside a residential unit at Block 309 Clementi Avenue 4.
Police officers and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel soon arrived on the scene.
Since the man was uncooperative with police and assessed to be a danger to himself, the police decided to force their way into the unit at around 12.20pm.
They eventually apprehended the 38-year-old man under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. He is currently being investigated for suspected consumption of controlled drugs.
