A 60-year-old Peruvian chef received a 16-week prison sentence after molesting a 13-year-old girl on an MRT train.
Direction Request Turns Into Sexual Assault on MRT Train
Pacheco Gutierrez Julian Roberto worked as a chef in Penang, Malaysia. He entered Singapore on 11 May 2025, planning to stay for two weeks.
On 18 May 2025 at 5:30pm, he approached the girl on an escalator at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. He asked her for directions to the Downtown Line.
The girl was heading to Sengkang via the North East Line. She told him to take the North East Line to Little India MRT station and transfer to the Downtown Line from there.
When the train arrived, Pacheco suddenly grabbed the girl’s hand and pulled her into the carriage with him. He told her to sit down next to him.
The frightened girl didn’t know how to react. During the ride, Pacheco placed his left hand on the victim’s thigh while speaking to her.
When the train reached Little India station, he grabbed her hand again. He asked her to accompany him to a restaurant. The girl declined his invitation.
Pacheco finally released his grip and alighted from the train alone.
Multiple Theft Charges Add to Molestation Case
The girl contacted her sister after reaching Sengkang MRT station to report what happened. Her sister informed their father, who filed a police report.
Pacheco committed other offences during his Singapore visit. A friend had allegedly told him it was easy to steal things in Singapore.
On the night of 17 May 2025, he stole a Louis Vuitton wallet worth S$1,000 from a woman at Lau Pa Sat. The wallet contained about S$1,010 in cash of various currencies, a SIM card and four credit cards.
A day before that incident, Pacheco stole a diner’s bag from a restaurant. He took a mobile phone from inside the bag and left it at a random location.
Pacheco appeared in court on Monday (21 July 2025), facing five charges including molestation and theft. After pleading guilty to three charges, he asked for leniency and admitted to his mistakes.
He has not yet made any compensation for the stolen items.
