It’s bad enough to commit an act of wrongdoing.
It’s arguably even more so when you commit an act of wrongdoing and gloat about it.
And while it’s definitely aggravating to hear about such a thing, that’s apparently what went down on 18 May, at a coffee shop located at Block 304 Woodlands Street 31.
A Chinese National was arrested for alleged molestation.
His friend, instead of being apologetic for his friend’s act, began filming the police with a strangely contented smile on his face.
Aggravating? Aggravating.
Alleged molestation
According to STOMP, a 41-year-old man, Yu Zhiyong, allegedly molested a beer lady at a coffee shop in Woodlands, by slapping her buttocks with his left hand.
The police have stated that they were alerted to the case of alleged outrage of modesty at Block 304 Woodlands Street 31 on 18 May, at around 9:49 p.m.
Later on, a video began circulating on Facebook, showing Yu, who was in a red shirt, sitting down while police officers handled the situation.
Yet, while the main focus should (naturally) be on the alleged molester himself, prolonged viewing of the video soon brought the spotlight to another man instead:
Yu’s friend.
Taunting
Filming the police force with his camera phone, he even taunted the nearby personnel when someone said that they (Yu and his friend) are not respecting Singapore’s laws.
“I tell you ah, I am recording this. You are not respecting Singapore’s laws, I will definitely upload this,” the uploader of the video said.
In response, Yu’s friend simply smiled widely and shrugged his shoulders, in a show that seemed to imply ‘bring it on’.
Now I don’t know about you, but that looks damn aggravating alright.
Later on, it was reported by Zaobao that Yu’s friend had accompanied the accused to court as well.
On Thursday (23 May), Yu was charged with one count of using criminal force on the 30-year-old woman, with the intention of outraging her modesty.
He’s currently out on a $5,000 bail, and reportedly has plans to apply for a lawyer under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme. He’s set to return to court on 30 May.
Netizens react
Suffice it to say; Netizens weren’t happy. But here’s the thing;
It might not be for the reason you’re suspecting.
And while I could go on with more screenshots, I guess you roughly know the gist by now.
Though honestly, I’m just gonna say three words:
It’s aggravating alright.
