Due to the emergence of dangerous challenges on TikTok, it may seem like humanity has only recently become as dumb as a thumb.
But no, we’ve been doing stupid things since the dawn of time.
All you have to do is go back about 15 years when people were still using Myspace. At the time, a sport called Parkour – which was established in France in 1988 – was popularised through films, documentaries, and of course, the internet.
Parkour involves moving along a route, typically in a city, trying to get around or through various obstacles in the quickest and most efficient manner.
It typically involves climbing, running, and leaping over walls, benches, and anything else in the way.
It’s been a long time since parkour made the headlines, but thanks to one rather inept traceur (person who does parkour), everyone’s talking about it again.
Man Fell off A Second Storey Ledge When He Tried To Parkour Off It
A video of a man pracitising parkour and falling off a second storey ledge has made the rounds on Reddit recently.
The video was so popular in fact, that it was shared on 27 subreddits.
The most popular posts were in r/WinStupidPrizes and r/Singapore.
In the short, 4-second video, the man executes what’s known as a dive roll, by leaping over a pony wall from the second storey with a somersault.
His plan was to… okay I’m not exactly sure what his plan was, but he ends up striking a ledge on the first floor with his head and accidentally somersaulting again before landing on the floor with a loud thud.
It looked painful, and must have hurt. Netizens were certainly concerned for him.
Netizen Said His Fall Sounded like ‘Uncle Making Roti Prata’
Okay, so maybe some of them were too busy laughing to be concerned.
One netizen in the r/Singapore post commented that the thud sound made by the man’s fall sounded similar to that of a roti prata slapping against the griddle.
Parkour Man is Fine; Shared Video on Instagram in Sep 2020
One netizen shared a link to the full version of the video, which was shared on Instagram last September by the parkour man himself.

According to the man’s post, he had prepared for the move for years by visiting the site repeatedly to plan his route and manoeuvres.
“Unfortunately, I focused too much on committing and failed to keep close to the wall”, the man wrote.
Thankfully, the man said he’s fine, and probably suffered nothing more than some bruised hands.
If you’ve never been trained by a reputed coach, please don’t try parkour just for some likes on social media, as it can be highly dangerous.
Just dance and sing on TikTok instead. People like that these days.
