Would you accept it?

I can sense the “Hell yeah”s streaming in, and for good reason too. Wealth, material assets and a life of comfort? 

And yet, if you’ve read the topic on your way in, you would know that the girl on the receiving end of the question didn’t just not accept the proposal.

She actually rejected it.

Which kinda bamboozles everyone in the court here cos c’mon:

What happened?

On Saturday (20 October), a rich man from Changsha, Hunan province decided to pop the question to his lady love outside Wanda Plaza shopping complex.

And it seems that rather than just being some generic ‘propose in a restaurant’ set-up, this one was a little more…

Flashy.

Having driven to the square outside the shopping complex in an orange Lamborgini (with his friends), he called the girl to meet him there. And with roses, fireworks and balloons cameo-ing in the scene, he waited for the love of his life to appear…

Before dropping to one knee.

And for a moment, it seemed like the intricate plan had 0% chance of failure. Because c’mon; really? Some guys proposed in slippers and singlets and still got the ring to enwrap its target, and you’re telling me this set-up could fail?

Are you kidding me?

But as life constantly likes to remind us, it’s full of surprises.

At first, the girl could be seen hesitating at his question, before the guy pressed on saying that he had purchased her favourite sports car for her as a wedding gift.

She, however, didn’t seem impressed.

Replying to him in English, she said, “I’m so sorry, I don’t want to. I’m so sorry!” She also added that she didn’t wish to marry a Chinese, and that she wasn’t prepared for commitment.

The male, however, wasn’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer. Getting up, he tried to persuade her to accept his proposal, and even got so desperate he said:

“I have money. I can buy as many of these cars as you like. I can buy whatever you want Marry me! Marry me!”

The girl tried to leave, but he refused to let go. Visibly annoyed, she then flung off his hands and shot at him, “So what if you have money?” before stomping off with one of her friends.

But contrary to what one might expect, the guy didn’t go back in tears.

Or rather, not quite.

Displeased, he impulsively aired his anger, and where better to vent than his own ‘lavish set-up’?

Flinging the bouquet of roses in the camera’s direction, he turned around and started destroying the display of products behind him.

And it seems that on this day, mankind received a grim reminder:

Nobody is safe from the friendzone. NOBODY.

Just for your info, the video has been removed. No one knows why.

Moral of the story

It’s true that money makes the world go round.

But like my colleague the Wise Man once said:

“Money can’t buy you happiness.”

So to all the broke guys out there, cheer up. You might be so financially broke you struggle to pay for your own toilet paper…

But your heart will triumph over such material assets as money.

So let’s fight together, bros, and one day…

We’ll make the world go round.
