We all know that fighting in public has its consequences in Singapore.
This is whether or not the other person is injured.
For one man who allegedly punched local radio DJ, Cheryl Miles, he is learning about this the hard way.
The assaulter was charged with being a public nuisance.
Here is what happened.
One FM 91.3 Radio Host Punched by Unknown Man at MRT Station
If you ever pass by Orchard MRT station, beware. There may be attackers on the loose.
Earlier this week, a 52-year-old man was arrested by the police for assaulting others at Orchard MRT station.
The police identified the attacker as Mr William Aw Chin Chai.
He had reportedly punched one victim near the tricep area at around 4.20 pm after he approached her and blocked her way out of the blue.
This victim was none other than local radio One FM 91.3 host Cheryl Miles.
In a video uploaded on YouTube under the channel “ST Clips”, a man is caught on camera slowly walking away as a woman can be heard in the background saying that he just “punched her”.
The video ends without any resolution as to the reason for the attack.
The man had apparently also assaulted other victims on the same day near Orchard MRT station.
According to Miles, who spoke to The Straits Times, two teenage girls approached her after the former’s attack and revealed that the same man had attacked one of them in the mall.
He had punched one of the teenage girl’s head.
Neither of the victims claimed to know the man or why he assaulted them.
Man Is Charged With Being a Public Nuisance
While the man was initially arrested for voluntarily causing hurt at Orchard MRT station, he is now charged with being a public nuisance.
If the man is convicted of his charges, he may face up to three months of imprisonment and a fine of up to $2,000.
However, he may be relying on mental illness or something equivalent to get out of the charges.
The man has reportedly been remanded for a medical examination at the Institute of Mental Health.
His case is scheduled to continue being heard on 17 August 2023 (Thursday), where the report on his mental health and its relation to his actions may be used in his defence.
In the meantime, we can only wait to see how this story unfolds. Stay safe from random attackers, everyone.
