Man Found Unresponsive While Holding Vape on SMRT Bus, Blood Found Beneath Seat

A man was found unresponsive while holding an e-cigarette on board SMRT bus service 110 on 1 Jul 2025. The incident occurred on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) between 5:30pm and 6:10pm.

Blood stains were visible on the floor underneath the man’s seat. The bus captain stopped the service and transferred all other passengers to another bus to continue their journey.

Bus Captain Responds After Passenger Alert

According to a witness who spoke to Stomp, the man appeared to have been vaping throughout his journey. Another passenger noticed something was wrong and reported the situation to the bus captain.

The bus captain stopped the bus to check on the man’s condition. He found the passenger unresponsive and holding an e-cigarette in his right hand. The man had placed his left hand and a white tote bag on the seat next to him.

Video footage shared with Stomp showed the bus captain standing next to the man, checking on his condition and asking him questions. Several drops of blood were visible on the floor beneath the seats. The man appeared dazed and unresponsive.

The bus captain decided to suspend the journey and instructed other passengers to take the next bus. He also reported the incident to his company.

Emergency Services Called to TPE Bus Stop

SMRT Buses’ Deputy Managing Director Vincent Gay confirmed the bus captain was alerted to the unconscious passenger at around 6:10pm on 1 Jul 2025. At the time, the bus was stationary at a bus stop on the TPE towards Punggol.

Gay said the bus captain “promptly rendered assistance” and remained with the man until the ambulance and police officers arrived. All other passengers were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journey.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call for assistance regarding the passenger at around 6:15pm on 1 Jul 2025. The man was subsequently conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital.

Gay said SMRT Buses strongly encourages passengers who encounter similar incidents to report them to staff immediately.

Commuters can also report such incidents to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) by calling the Tobacco Regulation Branch at 6684 2036 or 6684 2037 between 9am to 5:30pm from Mondays to Fridays.

According to the Health Sciences Authority, e-vaporisers contain harmful chemicals. The purchase, possession and use of imitation tobacco products, which include e-vaporisers, is prohibited in Singapore.

Any person convicted of possession, use and purchase of e-vaporisers faces a fine of up to $2,000.
