For ages, we’ve watched television serials unfold before our eyes in utter disbelief.
“Surely such a thing can only exist in dramas?” you cackle.
Well, news flash;
Some do occur in reality, and they’re every bit as grisly as the ones you’ve seen on TV.
69YO Who Stabbed His Former Wife 8 Times at ITE College Central Faces Reduced Murder Charge
Seet Cher Hng, now 69, is currently facing a charge of murder by intentionally causing fatal injuries.
Prior to this, he had faced a charge of murder, which would’ve meant the mandatory death penalty.
Now that the charge has been reduced, Seet could face either the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Apparently, the crime occurred on 19 July 2018.
At around 7:30pm, Seet ambushed his ex-wife, Ms Low Hwee Geok, 56, inside her car.
He was retired at the time, while she was a divisional director at ITE College Central.
When she saw him, she reportedly screamed before making a dash for it. As she stepped out of the car, she tripped and fell.
Seet then seized the opportunity to stab her eight times in total.
After committing the deed, he stabbed himself 13 times on his upper half, before collapsing on her.
While Ms Low was pronounced dead at the scene, Seet was able to be saved. He went under surgery for abdominal injuries, and was subsequently situated in intensive care until 25 July 2018.
Crime Of Passion
Seet has actually had two marriages: Ms Low was his second wife.
They reportedly wedded in 1993, and had a daughter. Due to Ms Low’s alleged infidelity, however, they ended up getting divorced.
Thereafter, Seet felt that he did not receive his fair share from the sale of a condominium unit, which the couple had jointly purchased. Between 2011 and 2018, he would send multiple e-mail requests to Ms Low, asking for a sum of money as his rightful share and supposed “compensation” for her infidelity.
In 2018, he even left a note on the windscreen of her car, threatening to kickstart legal proceedings.
His demands, however, were ultimately left ignored.
On 19 July 2018, Seet droved a rented car to the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central campus, and brought a haversack containing three knives, a spanner and a note intended for the police.
The contents of the note were not revealed to the public.
Seet had also engraved “010609” and “020609” on the knife: the supposed dates that Ms Low had allegedly cheated on him.
Seet then proceeded to camp at the carpark for Ms Low’s arrival. And after nearly three hours, she began approaching her car.
Sentencing
In view of the reduced murder charge, prosecutors have expressed that they’re not against a life sentence for Seet.
The accused has also accepted his fate, stating: “I wish to plead guilty and don’t wish to give evidence.”
The case has since been described as a “painful family tragedy” in court, with defence lawyer Wendell Wong adding: “His paramount consideration to plead guilty is to shield his daughter and other loved ones from reliving the tragedy.”
Seet will be sentenced on 22 September 2021.
