In mid-December 2023, the helper told Khairulnaim she did not like him. She blocked him from her social media accounts, including Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.
Khairulnaim then confessed his feelings for the helper to his wife. His wife asked him for a divorce on 1 Jan 2024.
Incident Escalates After Phone Snooping and Marriage Dispute
On 12 Jan 2024, Khairulnaim returned home with his daughters between 2.30pm and 3pm.
After asking his daughters to shower, he went to the kitchen and saw the victim’s phone open on her WhatsApp chat with her husband.
He wanted to photograph the husband’s phone number but failed when the helper snatched her phone away. Khairulnaim then went to the storeroom to retrieve something to fix his toilet bidet.
The victim followed him, asking why he had taken her phone. She accidentally pushed the storeroom door hard. Khairulnaim questioned why she was angry and kicked the door three times.
The victim later told Khairulnaim his wife wanted to speak with him. During the phone call, he complained that the victim had not given his daughters rice. His wife refuted this claim, saying the helper regularly fed the children.

The victim asked him to check CCTV recordings, but he could not access them as his wife had removed his access rights. Khairulnaim took an afternoon nap and woke at about 5.45pm to prepare for his night shift.
Death Threat with Kitchen Knife Leads to Arrest
Khairulnaim felt angry with himself, the victim and his wife. He believed the victim had destroyed his life and considered telling her husband she had a boyfriend in Pakistan.
He contacted his roster master and took urgent leave from work. At around 6.03pm, he went to the kitchen and took a knife with a 16cm blade.
Khairulnaim walked to the hallway leading to his room and turned to face the victim, who was in the living room about six to seven metres away. He held the knife at hip level with the blade tip pointed at the victim.
He raised the knife slightly and told her he wanted to kill her. His wife returned home minutes later and the helper fled the unit, fearing for her safety.

A passer-by found the victim crying and called the police. Khairulnaim was arrested that night at 8.55pm.
On 16 Jun 2025, he pleaded guilty to one count of criminal intimidation and was jailed for 40 days. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ho May Kim had urged the court to jail him between five-and-a-half weeks and seven weeks.
Ms Ho noted Khairulnaim had been in a position of authority when he made the death threat and had used a knife. The prosecution considered mitigating factors, including his status as a first-time offender, the brief nature of the threat, and that the victim was unharmed.
Ms Ho said Khairulnaim appeared to have committed the offence on impulse.
For criminal intimidation, he could have been jailed for up to 20 years.
