20-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty to Voyeurism After Taking Upskirt Photos at Paya Lebar MRT

A 20-year-old man was caught red-handed taking upskirt photos at an MRT station.

The alert Korean victim quickly identified what was happening and called the police.

The man tried to escape, pushing the woman down and injuring her, but was eventually caught by members of the public.

The accused, 20-year-old Benjamin Kow, pleaded guilty to three counts of voyeurism in the State Courts on Monday (7 Apr 2025).

The victim is a 29-year-old Korean woman. To protect her identity, the judge has ordered the media not to report any information that might reveal who she is, including her name.

How The Incident Unfolded

According to case details, on 24 Sep 2024 at about 11:43 PM, the accused was riding an escalator heading toward Exit D at Paya Lebar MRT station.

Kow spotted the victim, who was wearing a skirt, standing in front of him on the escalator.

Taking advantage of their positioning, he pulled out his mobile phone and positioned it beneath her skirt to capture inappropriate photos without her knowledge.

During this illicit attempt, Kow’s phone accidentally made contact with the victim’s calf.

This physical touch immediately alerted the woman to something suspicious happening behind her. She turned around swiftly and noticed Kow holding his phone in an unusual position.

The victim, suspecting she had been photographed inappropriately, confronted Kow directly.

She demanded to see his phone to verify her suspicions. Initially appearing cooperative, Kow handed over his device to the woman.

Upon inspecting the phone’s gallery, the victim discovered disturbing evidence – videos of herself that had just been recorded from underneath her skirt, along with a series of blurry upskirt photos that appeared to be of other victims.

Shocked and distressed by this discovery, she immediately called the police while maintaining possession of the phone as evidence.

Attempted Escape and Destruction of Evidence

The situation escalated quickly when Kow realized he was about to face serious consequences.

While the victim was in the middle of her call to the police, Kow suddenly lunged forward and forcefully grabbed his phone back from her hands.

In his desperate attempt to flee the scene, Kow pushed the victim with considerable force, causing the woman to lose her balance and fall to the ground.

The fall resulted in injuries to her elbow and ankle, adding physical harm to the violation she had already experienced.

A male bystander who witnessed the entire incident responded to the victim’s cries for help.

Without hesitation, he jumped on his bicycle and pursued Kow, who was attempting to escape through the station.

The chase continued briefly before the good Samaritan successfully intercepted and detained Kow until authorities arrived.

Police officers arrested Kow at 1:05 AM on 25 Sep 2024, approximately an hour and a half after the initial incident.

During the waiting period before police arrival, Kow made additional attempts to cover his tracks by deleting the incriminating upskirt videos from his phone, hoping to destroy crucial evidence.

The judge has adjourned the case until 16 Jun 2025 for sentencing, where Kow faces potential imprisonment for his actions.
