There’s a saying that goes like this: never bring a sword to a gunfight.

That and size matters.

But if you’re someone who doesn’t believe in these statements, you might find yourself appreciating it after this article.

As a young man learned the hard way.

Young Man Pulled Out A Knife

On 2 Aug at around 1 am, a young man dressed in a white T-shirt approached the cashier counter.

The counter was manned by a shirtless shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper had reportedly asked him to pay for a lighter that the younger man has asked for.

When the shopkeeper heard that the man has no money, either in cash or in his e-wallet, he went back to playing with his mobile phone.

Seeing that the shopkeeper was sufficiently distracted, the man discreetly pulled out a fruit knife from a packaging.

It was believed that the knife had come from the shop itself too.

He hid it in his hands and crept towards the shopkeeper.

Shit Hits The Fan

Unfortunately for the man in the white t-shirt, the shopkeeper noticed what he was hiding in his hands.

The shopkeeper calmly retreated from the man and pulled out his own weapon.

This.

Oops.

The shopkeeper poked the parang at the man and shouted at him to put down his weapon.

And to be honest, when faced with a longer weapon, what else could he do but comply?

Anticlimactic End

Thankfully, nobody was injured in this incident and the biggest injury was probably to the would-be robber’s pride.

The man walks away from the shop while the shopkeeper put the parang back where he stored it.

And that was the end of the incident.

Moral of the Story:

Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. Or even a swordfight. Because unlike what some men like to believe, sometimes, size really does matter.

And it’s even better if you don’t try and rob a shop.

Because as the man has learnt, even when you’re sure that no one’s watching, someone’s always watching you.

Even in Singapore where shopkeepers don’t carry parangs the size of your arm around, you’ll not be able to escape the SPF.
