23-Year-Old Man Arrested At CCK After Slashing His Own Arm With Sharp Object

What else can go wrong in 2020, you might ask?

I have just the thing for you.

Warning: This story has mentions of self-harm and blood.

Last night, someone posted two videos in the Complaint Singapore Facebook group.

Not much context is given prior to the start of the video before it zooms in on two men having what seems like a serious confrontation.

No audio is available in this video so it’s unclear what actually went down between these two men.

One man is seen holding a gardening hoe, while the other is seen holding a sharp object.

The man with the sharp object seems to be screaming for a brief moment before he slashes his own arm several times with it. Upon seeing the man inflicting self-harm to himself, the man and other passersby quickly rush over to help him.

In the next video, the camera pans over to a woman with what seems like blood on her face.

Due to the poor quality of the audio, it is unclear what she is trying to say in the video although she is seen pointing in another direction.

Quickly Defused

Thankfully, an off-duty police officer was reportedly in the area when the incident occurred and helped to defuse the situation.

According to CNA, the police were alerted of the case at Block 409 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, relating to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.

The man was later arrested and was taken to Ng Teng Fong Hospital, while a 27-year old woman was taken to National University Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.

According to Section 234 of the penal code, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means carries a term of imprisonment of up to 7 years, a fine, caning or a combination of either punishment.

Past Cases

This is not the first of such a case happening in 2020, unfortunately.

In May, a 21-year-old man was arrested for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon at Blk 452 Jurong West St 42.

Photos of the incident were posted online, which showed a man sitting in a pool of blood and a man walking away. The next photo showed the empty floor and the pool of blood.

The victim was a 26-year-old man who was still conscious while being conveyed to the National University Hospital.

In August, a 20-year-old man was charged for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.

The brawl allegedly began on a bus ride, and ended with the victim found wounded at a bus stop along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. Thankfully, the victim was still conscious and was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

With investigations and help from the public, the police were able to arrest the 20-year-old.

Investigations later revealed that he did not know the victim prior to the incident.

Should you witness such incidents in public, you are advised to call 999 immediately to report it. (Do not call 911 because we are not in America, although it automatically reroutes the number to 999.)
