Man Wants To Commit Suicide After Wife Spends Over S$58,000 Online During 11.11 Sale

Humans are biologically wired to go crazy during a sale. You know how a calf naturally gravitates towards its mother for milk? The same thing happens when humans hear or see the word sale.

We could be working, commuting, or watching Netflix, but the moment we get a notification with the word sale, our limbs automatically perk up and our fingers start searching for details before we even know it.

And when the actual sale of the day comes, well, we’re giddy with excitement.

But sometimes we can get carried away with our spending because we feel the need to make the best of this temporary opportunity, which actually defeats the purpose of a sale if you think about it.

But some people just can’t help themselves.

Man Wants To Commit Suicide After Wife Spends Over S$58,000 Online During 11.11 Sale

A 29-year-old man in Sichuan, China wanted to kill himself after his wife, Zhan, spent way too much during the Singles day sale.

Zhan spent over 300,000 yuan (around S$58,000) purchasing designer handbags, expensive perfumes, clothes, and many other products online.

The first thing that annoys me about this is that she is already married. Single people don’t have much to be happy about, except one day every year – 11.11. Why take that away from them, Zhan?

Naturally, her husband was shocked when he found out.

On Sunday (Nov 10), police were notified that a man wanted to jump off the roof of a 33-storey building, and they quickly rushed to the scene.

They tried to persuade Zhan’s husband, Wang, to come down, but he was very emotional.

Isn’t this a bit of an overreaction, though?

You might think so, dear reader, but there is a reason for Wang’s seemingly extreme reaction; his wife has done this before.

Apparently, Zhan has always been fond of online shopping. For last year’s Single’s day sale, she had spent over 200,000 yuan (around S$39,000) and Zhan had to pay it off for her.

She promised to control her spending, but that didn’t really work out too well.

Managed to calm him down

Thankfully, after half an hour of turmoil, the police managed to console Wang and persuaded him to come down.

They brought him home and told his family about his suicidal behaviour. Wang explained his distress, saying he was the sole breadwinner of the family, earning only a few thousand yuan a month. His wife used to work in a property company but she quit her job after she gave birth to take care of their baby.

So, when Wang discovered that Zhan had gone on an online shopping rampage again, he panicked and wanted to kill himself because he didn’t know how he was going to pay it off.

After his suicidal attempt, Zhan vowed that she would not buy anything online again.

Wang: Are you sure, honey?

Zhan: I promise.

Wang: But… that’s what you said last year.

Zhan: This time, Wang, it’s for real.

*fast forward to 11/11/2020*

Zhan: Uh… I spent 400,000 yuan this time

Wang: GODDAMMIT
